For a creature of that size, he sure is elusive. I'd say they were probably well-prepared, until a pack of Bigfeet attacked them by surprise and took their gear.

Was thinking the same. They found Bigfoot, but he held them captive till they died of exposure. He cleaned the scene and slipped away.
