20/20 hindsight end of game thought.........

OK, so I am no student of football, but it occurred to me that, after burning the last timeout (coming out of the 2nd to last timeout!), as others have mentioned we were not able to run a play to center the ball for the FG try.
Thus we ended up on the right hash, tough angle. Given that, and knowing that the farther back the kick is attempted would make the angle less severe, why couldn't we have taken 2 consecutive delay penalties?
Instead of 32 out it would be from 42 out, still within Smith's comfort zone....

Opinions? I have never seen this done before that I can recall, so it probably doesn't hold koolaid....

As mentalky broke as that kid was I don't think he could have shot the ball from a laser guided rocket and made the kick. I would have much rather ran a fake at some point. Of course that would require some offensive ingenuity which I'm not sure this staff can dream up.

I think attempting that particular FG given the lack of timeouts and Litton being gimped was the right call. That being said, I think we are way, way, waaaaay understating the colossal failure of having to burn that timeout before we ever ran a play. Hell, just think if we didnt get that penalty its a 47 yard FG that we have to try because we were out of timeouts.

When I saw the young man's emotion moved to tears, I knew we were in trouble. With that said, I hope Mr. Smith uses this as a lesson for the next opportunity.

Not to pick on the kid… But 42 yards has never been "in his comfort zone" and at that point in the game it certainly wasn't. Also, as a former high school kicker, I can tell you the angle from 32 yards is not that bad, even if you are on a hash, certainly a kick that a college kicker should make.
