2022 Sun Belt

Hope we have the money for a new field; thinking that scheduled replacement is stall a few years away. Maybe Mr. Goebel can get us a good deal... I miss him, he was fantastic for MU.

Surely the field comes with some type of warranty? But as a D1 program replacing the turf shouldn't even be an issue. Is that not a built in operating cost? Also seems like a liability to have faulty turf and would cost the university more in the long run from an injury standpoint. IMO, it would be negligence to not replace the turf this year

SBC - Hope its true. Looking for the confirmation in actual media.

Turf - Really? We are having a discussion about turf. First, MU has an account in place to replace the turf on a standard basis (something that a lot of our local HS don’t have, which is getting kids hurt) and that replacement includes a discount. The money is budgeted and there. Second, no body is going to replace such a high dollar item early just because of some conference logos. Been watching the bowl games? Half of them are played on fields with the same sort of permanent logos, covered over with green paint of some kind. I’m pretty sure somebody can figure out how to cover it and then stencil in a SBC logo on top. And, third, we also have to redo the basketball floor, etc.

Talking about turf got me thinking about playing Toledo in the snow for the MAC Championship. It was snowing so hard that they had to bring out a tractor like sweeper to remove the snow from the yardage lines. Between the frozen surface and the stiff bristles on the machine, a lot of damage was done to the field. Not sure, but I believe they replaced the playing surface for the next year.

Good lord people. There's paint remover that's utilized all the time on these artificial surfaces. Remove the old, allow to dry, and then repaint. Watch the bowl games tomorrow and note the endzones with school names painted in each end, as well as logos at midfield and sponsor names.

I was at that game and remember it well.. Funny thing about it I sat with my brother in law in a sky box that night. First and only time to do so. Honestly I missed the outdoor atmosphere .

If this is true and we are going to the SBC next year, we are suddenly looking for another non-conference game (App State becomes a league game)... Wonder who we have on the list to call on what is by football scheduling standards "short notice."

We already have Norfolk State, @ Notre Dame and Bowling Green for next year.

I believe our conference move is a positive one and look forward to the games with our new opponents, but I find it a bit amusing that a West Virginia school is now in a conference called the Sun Belt. We are one of the cloudiest states in the nation. 😀

No you don't.
If it were up to you, MU wouldn't be going anywhere.

JMU would be in a transition year to FBS football so they technically would not be full sunbelt member in 2022. They will be out 4th OOC game.

Currently, the NCAA requires a two-year period for an institution to fully transition from FCS to FBS. The notification must occur by June 1, meaning that JMU’s transition would officially begin on July 1, 2022 and end on June 30, 2024. So JMU would be fully FBS, including bowl eligibility, for the 2024 football season. All other sports would be immediately eligible for postseason play upon joining the Sun Belt.

It’s not just about a damn
Logo. The field is in bad shape. Seams starting to show. Guys have the blades all over them when getting tackled. It’s looks it’s age.

That should be of least concern. I've read this board for many years, and feel better hot dogs and a better place to take a leak are much higher priorities.

Seems like new fixtures, better lighting, and a good cleaning of the restrooms wouldn’t be that much of a drain on the athletic budget.
The Joan opened in 1991... after 30 years, replacing the bathroom fixtures, lighting and pee troughs with something nicer should be considered routine maintenance. Throw in a coat of paint while we are at it and it would be a drastic difference.

And before anyone says "its just bathrooms" or "your only in there to take a leak" -- Bathrooms make a huge impression on people. What do you think when you stop at a gas station and the bathrooms are old/gross/etc? How about a restaurant with dirty restrooms?

Its all part of the gameday experience, which we have long determined isn't very good at Marshall.

I still remember being at Marshall and taking a date to dinner in Charleston. We had reservations at what I considered a nice restaurant.
Once there, my date excused herself to go to the restroom. After a few minutes, she was back looking almost pale. She said the restroom was disgusting.
I complained to the manager and we left.

Bingo... Gross restrooms leave a terrible impression. We want people to enjoy themselves at the stadium, feel like they got their money's worth and keep coming back.

You’re an idiot if you truly feel hot dogs and a better pisser are more important than a quality field.

Once again, turf replacement, not just for football but for the other turf facilities such as soccer and softball, is a planned for, ongoing, budgeted item. Each WILL be replaced on schedule, no decision or budget changes or fundraising required. It simply WILL be done, on schedule, on an ongoing basis. That simple.

Repairs to things like the restrooms (not entering into the discussion of their current state) is different. That would be a decision, requiring a source of new $$ or moving $$ from some other line item.

Difference between a family that has it in their financial plan to buy a new car every five years; and the same family deciding to forgo a vacation and fix up the laundry room.

The turf looks old so it is good to hear we are planning to update/replace. What is wrong with the restrooms?

The whole place needs pressure washed and painted. The same black crap has been on the front of the Shewey for years

Uhhh. Who gives a darn about the logos. Our turf is shot and is dangerous to players, thats why it needs replaced.

just an FYI, the logos on the field are sewn in, not painted on,

Turf is in bad shape.

Why can't we spare a few gallons of paint for the goal posts?

THat being said, I am so excited to get out of C-DOA.

It wouldn’t shock that IF we can play in SB in 22, we’ll get new turf after spring ball ends.
