It wont work the way you hope even if CUSA goes to 9 conference games... Which they wont.
Actually, its counter intuitive, if you take away a nonconference game the team we would leave off the schedule each year is the MAC team. A) We need a warmup game and 1-AA teams are willing to play in Huntington every year (MAC teams want home and home). B) Unlike Ohio, or in next years case Akron, there is next to no chance we could lose to a 1-AA team under our current team/coaches. C) Schedules are done 4-6 years in advance for FBS teams.
If we had a 9-game league slate that added UAB this year we would simply drop Akron and play 1-AA at home, Louisville, Pitt, League schedule.
The good news is, our future schedules are filling up nicely with FBS teams so hopefully after this year the only other year with a 1-AA team will be 2018. I'm assuming we can find a FBS partner to play on the road in 2019 and home in 2021.
