Says “Our long term strategy for our power generation fleet will not change with changes in the Clean Power Plan.... the reasons are tied to market forces, as coal has become more expensive than other fuels” according to melissa mchenry spokesperson for AEP. AEP has already sold is Gavin plant and now reviewing its Cardinal plant which has been running well below capacity for several years.

According to Ohio’s First Energy “a repeal of the clean power plan does not change our decision to exit competitive generation, which is based on challenges of operating in a competitive market”.

Dayton Power and light (another large Appalachian coal consumer) is also on pace to close all its coal power plants next year and has announced it has no intentions to change course regardless of Trumps rollbacks

But Hey coal jobs are booming. Sisters knows of a job. Dig baby dig. Gas and oil are the future WV lead by a coal billionaire will keep begging for coal subsidies.

Are you saying the Gavin plant will be shut down? Who bought it?

That isn't funny, but market forces are still the driver behind much of this. I predicted this when the NG market exploded open. Anyone could have predicted this when that happened.
Yeah, shits not a bit funny.

But my buddies who worked in the mines were championing the NG explosion as something that would crush renewables and piss off the tree huggers. Told them to be careful what they wished for...

Im lucky Im retired but have so many friends having it hard. I would drive a truck. 2 weeks school then thrown into with the wolves driving for 2 grand a week. That is for a miner looking for another job. I would work at wal mart before i would go without a job.i love retirement. It beats mining coal.

No strip mining does not cause earthquakes. When done right you can leave beautiful grazing land and lakes.

Mining is not outlawed like fragging is in new york. Lying Hillary shoved that one through. Thank the Lord she is not the president

If it wasn’t grazing fields before the strip mining, it shouldn’t be after. Can’t return strip mined land to former glory, mountains with beautiful hardwood trees.
