Al Bean - Fourth Man to Walk on Moon - Dies

How many men that's walked on the moon are still living?

Buzz Aldrin, Dave Scott, Charlie Duke, and Harrison Schmitt.

Jim Lovell & Fred Haise (scheduled for landing as part of Apollo 13) obviously flew to the Moon but had to forgo landing. Lovell has the distinction of flying to the Moon twice (without landing) as part of the Apollo program (along with Bill Anders and Frank Boreman as part of Apollo 8 - all of whom are still alive).

Flying to the Moon (without landing) also includes the commanders for all the Moon missions, including Tom Stafford (on Apollo 10 with John Young and Gene Cernan, both of whom have died in the last 18 months), Mike Collins (Apollo 11), Al Worden (Apollo 15), and Ken Mattingly (Apollo 16). Commanders of Apollo 12, 13, 14, and 17 are dead (Dick Gordon, Jack Swigert, Stu Roosa, and Ron Evans).

If those four die before we have another man step foot on the moon, it would be sad. With the advance in technology, watching this unfold in high definition would be pretty awesome. The quality of the 60s and 70s left a lot to be desired.

With CGI can you imagine how much better the hoax landing would be if they do it again now? They’ll probably make earth look round in the background too.

You won't be able to see the wires or anything.

Bean took this photo of Earth. That perspective very few humans have experienced first hand. I can’t imagine how awesome that experience would be. But to be out as far as Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot photo...that would be such an overwhelming feeling of insignificance...
