And speaking of Herdman....

This is the first line from a USA Today story on it:

"Nothing would be bigger than Tiger Woods playing in the Masters this year."

It's hardly the biggest thing of the year. It's not even the biggest sports related event of the year. Mayweather vs Pacquiao &/or UK possibly going undefeated are two that come immediately come to mind. Tiger hasn't won the Masters since 2005. It's a good story, sure. But hardly something that warrants that kind of description.

Tiger Woods is bigger than boxing now. They used to put Ali matches and big time matches on regular tv. Prime time. Not now, pay per view. Bigger than UK basketball. 80% of the country doesn't give a shi* about college basketball. In all honesty there are about four schools that consider basketball #1. UK, Duke, UNC, and Kansas. Raoul, I would love to include Indiana in this group, but they are really a relic of what they used to be.

Tiger Woods is the biggest sports name since Ali. That is not even really in dispute whether you love or hate the guy or he stinks now. The average joe knows who Woods is. He has his own line of stuff with Nike. That is when you are big time. Jordan is the king of that with Nike, followed by Woods.

Tiger Woods is currently ranked 104th right now. Nobody is watching golf with an expectation of him winning any more & golfers have openly commented they're not intimidated by him like they used to be. And while I think boxing in America is on its death bed, Tiger Woods is not bigger than the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. Not even close.

And your regular tv vs pay-per-view comparison is insane. It's a pay-per-view because there are hordes of people willing to pay to see this fight. Even with these two boxers on the tail end of their career, I'll drop $90 to watch that fight, I don't know a single person willing to actually pay money to watch a rehabbing Tiger with the yips swing a club on tv. The combined purse for two the two fighters is $200 million. That's just the money the boxers are getting. And speaking of money, Americans will drop $9 billion on March Madness this year. 9 Billion. I think more than 20% give a shit.

I don't care what he is ranked right now. I walked in and asked my wife to pick the names she knew out of four pictures. Tiger Woods, Mayweather, John Calipari, and a UK basketball player. Guess who she, who knows not much about sports, could pick out?

Tiger Woods, again, is the most famous sports figure since Jordan. I should have listed Jordan after Ali. Brain Cramp. My bad. Ali, Jordan, Tiger, are household names. You can just say Ali, Jordan, Tiger.

The guy is like a soap opera. People like that stuff whether he shoots 95 or wins at Augusta. That's the point.

The guy is on the front page of Yahoo every other day. For whatever reason.

I don't know how anybody could dispute his fame. Whether you like him or not. It is what it is. He is the big story.

Boxing is a damn near dying sport. Boxing is not on prime time because nobody would watch it. Golf is on every week. Some of the most lucrative advertising dollars are on golf tv ads why? Golfers have money.

I honest to god can't name one starter on UK's basketball team. Honestly, I couldn't without looking it up.

How many people do you think know who Tiger Woods is?

From the front page of Yahoo:

His plane was spotted at Augusta on Tuesday, and there are rumors that he has made significant progress in fixing his broken golf game over the last few weeks.

The Golf Channel's Tim Rosaforte, one of the best golf reporters out there, went on TV and gave an example of how well Tiger is supposedly playing right now.

According to Rosaforte, Tiger shot a "worst-ball 66" at his hometown Medalist Golf Club in Florida. Because it was worst ball format - where he played two different balls and took the worst shot in each situation - Rosaforte says it was arguably more impressive than the course-record 62 he shot in 2011.

If you're one to get overexcited about "Tiger Woods Is Back" anecdotes, prepare yourself. Here's how he described it:

"The best example of the progress Tiger made over the last two-to-three weeks is the worst-ball 66 he shot at Medalist Golf Club. That's where he takes the worst of two drives, the worst of the two approach shots, the putt that's either furthest away from the hole or the chip that's furthest away from the hole. And then if he makes birdie he has to validate. So if he makes a 10-footer for birdie he has to make another 10-footer for birdie. To go around that golf course, shoot six under in those conditions where you can't hide, obviously, you can't hide a weakness, and you think about the course record he shot there - 62 in 2011 - this round could conceivably be considered better."

Sounds pretty good!

Rosaforte reports that Tiger will play the Masters barring some unforeseen circumstances.

Tiger will play that event until he realizes that he is once again getting his ass kicked, won't be able to catch back up to the leaders, and will quit due to another mysterious injury.

Pacquioa? 99.9% of the population have no clue who that is. I bet given the option most people would think its a character on a Pokemon card. No once gives a shit about boxing anymore, primarily because of what herdman said. You could watch Ali or sugar ray on TV. Pay per view has killed that sport.

Tiger is without question a huge story even with his struggles.
