Anyone else concerned that Wells

has 2 touchdowns in the last 16 q's?
He missed a WIDE open Morrell in the end zone on a throw that 90% of middle schoolers can make. He makes some nice throws, but then is way off on easy throws.

Not yet... Saturday's game pretty much set MU up to run it in the end zone every time we were down there. We had 1st and goal inside the 5 multiple times and Navy showed no signs of stopping our ground game in short yardage.

If he doesn't throw a couple against NC Central this week I will be more concerned.

Nope.

More worried that he is a bit erratic at times. Often fires the ball into tight spaces for great plays, and the trade off is firing too hard and too high several times on what should be easy completions.

I'd like to see him have more touch, and grow in discerning when he needs to fire it hard and fast. A few of those overthrown balls will either get recievers killed or become INTs against better defenses.

So I'm not worried about the TDs. He'll get those. But if he can clean up those wild shots that get away from him he's in for a spectacular season and career.

We scored 49 pts, he completed 67% of his passes, and threw for over 300 yards and we’re worried about his performance?

Over his career

18 TD, 11 ints.

Hopefully, over the next 2 games, he will get a few. Give him even more confidence.

App State only a 6 point dog to Miami (So Fla version). Apparently, they are better than some belief.

I'm not concerned. He's certainly good enough to get us by, and he'll have to improve if he wants to stay ahead of the talent coming in. This isn't Doc Holliday's Herd anymore, he's not guaranteed his starting position for the next three years regardless of what happens.

If Marshall wants to get into the Top 25 and make noise, they will need either Wells to improve, or for someone better than Wells to take over. He's going to have that chance, and the kid seems like a hard worker who will do his best. If he gets there, it will be a testament to his effort; if he doesn't, there will be others who will get that chance.

[You know, I've come to realize that 90% of the reason the fans hated on Holliday's QBs so bad was because he refused to allow for competition at the position. I like this better - "You do you kid, and if its not enough, it won't be enough."]

Really. If some issues are present in gane 4 or 5, maybe we can be concerned.

I bet any WVU fan would gladly take him now.

Camped with a die had Mountie family this weekend and the husband was listening to the wvu game as I watched the MU game on the tv I brought. He mentioned he Was pissed that WVU did not offer him. The kids is going to be a good one. I agree he needs to learn some touch on those 15 yard crossing patterns He throws like the shortstop that he is and he has a cannon. So glad he is our QB.

Solid performance. Yes, he had some mistakes, but there were also some missed throws that were not on him. I'm happy with his performance and hope that if he visits this board he knows that the majority of the fan base are currently rallying behind him so he carries the strength of us all into his games.

I think the moment his confidence is back 100% the rest of CUSA better get the fvck outta this kid's way. He's a trailblazer.

He played really good. If I am nitpicking then I still have some concerns that he panics after he sees pressure. I know the drives after he got hit or hurried he just chucked them deep a couple times, or tried to force them into bad spots. He just needs to learn to throw the ball away in tough spots. Again that is being really picky. Kid has an NFL arm for sure.

And you’re the reason why its embarrassing to be a herd fan sometimes
He‘s a freaking sophomore that went to Navy (a much harder first game than we usually have) and won easily under a new coach after going thru last years 2nd half of the season that would have put most kids his age straight into therapy

After last years complete meltdown i think a little scrutiny is warranted

Why not. Think back to last year and the comments about him are exactly the same. We absolutely have reason to be cautiously optimistic just like with huff
Sure we can be cautiously optimistic. But I don't think we need to criticize every thing the kid does after the first game of a new season. He is a sophomore after all. If the same issues come up game after game the next 2-3, then yeah, we should all be concerned. jmho

49-7

Did some of you actually watch the game? Seriously. This team seemed more focused. More motivated. More organized. More disciplined...than we've witnessed the previous 10 years. An offensive scheme that made sense. An aggressive defense that made plays when needed and a special teams that created field position. A first game, for a first time head coach and players who clearly dealt with chaos, mismanagement and ZERO confidence at the end of last season, literally destroyed a team many thought were going to give us issues on both sides of the ball. 49-7!!!!

I'm not cautiously optimistic. I'm optimistic. It's a long season ahead. There will be challenges along the way but "questioning" this specific performance after what we sat through the previous decade is ridiculous on too many levels to describe here.

I'd much rather he hit the receiver's feet than overthrow it and the receiver tip it. That spells INT almost every time.

I still contend a lot of Grants issues last year was coaching, lack thereof and Doc being stubborn - leaving him in and not allowing Cramsey to call plays that would have put Grant in a better position to get out of the funk.
As to Saturday and no TD’s - when we can rush it in, why call a pass play?

Look man he sucks. Flat out sucks. I mean he can't extend a 47 yard throw to Shadeed to 48 yards for the TD??? Complete lack of arm strength. Shoot Brian Anderson would have made that throw. Good thing our backup can throw TDs.

Not bringing Wells in two years ago late in the season when he could have played four games was a perfect sign of Doc’s style. Green needed competition.

He’s got to stop overthrowing guys over the middle. He’s got potential but has to show improvement.
