His signature win is against Morgan State.

I'm sure there's still a few fans out there holding on to that win.

I'm not willing to give up on doc, but a few of his coaches need to go ASAP. Mirabal is one of them, OLine caused way too many issues this year and never been more than average under him. Wr coach needs to go, we need a qb coach as well. We continue to drop the ball. Not gonna win many games with all that going on. The d is just too damn young, doc needs to lighten up a bit on dismissals

I will add that legg offense has proven to work, but it takes a qb who is a leader to make it work. At this point I don't think chase has what it takes to run his offense, jmho

Bullshit. It "worked" when you had a quarterback that could take the shitty play calling and turn it into a sandlot play for a gain when it broke down (regularly). Seriously, the same 5-10 plays we see today, were the same 5-10 plays Cato had his entire career. He was just able to break lose, make plays with his feet and masquerade the shitshow offense for something (it really wasn't) against weaker competition.

Remember these golden oldies on here when Cato was "young"? "Cant open the playbook, Cato needs developed." Cant open the playbook because he is young." "Give Cato time to grow and develop. No need to open the playbook up." yada yada yada!! What Cato actually developed into was the ability to make plays off a shitty system. It allowed him to use his feet and throw to a guy he knew since middle school.

Chase isn't Cato. He appears to be more of a pocket passing type QB (with poor mechanics and less coaching). Yes, Chase may need to work on his leadership type skills. But no way in hell anyone should lay the full implosion of this teams performance at his feet. It starts at the top. This is on Doc. Period.

I don't disagree with you but at the same time it all goes beyond more than the playbook. Care to count how many dropped balls there were last night, or chase zeroing in on Clark at the worst times?

Again, dropped balls are not a QBs issue. "Zeroing in on one receiver" sounds like the hallmark of a Legg offense. How many of Cato's record breaking yardage went to "one" receiver? With the performance of the Oline this year it also appears Chase only has time to look at one receiver. Additionally, without a running game (zero threat of a run by anyone-including the QB, like Cato once did), he is a sitting target as receivers run the same generic "vanilla" routes. Very easy for a D to read what our offense is going to do and defend against it.

Again, Cato put pressure on Dfenses because he could break containment and look down field. At that point, the play called, was a scramble for survival that paid off continually. Some Herd fans viewed that as a "successful" offense and viewed Doc, et al as genius. Those that know better, knew...the day of reckoning was coming. That style of offense is a gimmick. Gimmicks come....and then they go just as quickly.

Yes, but Cato developed into an effective multi dimensional quarterback. He was able to tuck it and run effectively when called for, and defenses had to respect that ability (although he never quite mastered the "slide":p). I'm afraid Litton will never be effective as a runner, and I don't think we duplicate anywhere near recent past success as a team with a 1 dimensional QB who can't effectively escape from the pocket; i.e., ends up taking sacks/hits or throwing ill advised passes trying to escape the rush. Look at two recent losses: both NTSU and Charlotte had "new" QBs, with less experience than Litton, who made key plays with their feet, including td run, at critical times to keep drives going, etc.

I remember numerous plays where Cato made nothing into something. Many times. I remember thinking that if it were any QB who couldn't run as well the play would be over but Cato turned it into either a big gain by running and throwing to an open WR who came back to the ball or just flat out scored a TD. This is a different QB and thus the offense can't run the same. If they wanted the offense to run the same they should have gotten another duel threat QB to continue the trend like Cato. So yes Cato made Legg look like a genius for 4 years. One thing I don't get is that when Cato was young we ran an uptempo offense which put up large numbers and I think mainly because of lack of experience on the line and lack of decent defense. Why not try that again. We really scored a ton of points like that and were able to stay in games when we otherwise wouldn't have

Cato was cato, he made the offense go. It really took off when Devon added another dimension. We don't have a Cato now or a Devon so it all boils down to offensive scheme, and right now it appears to be forcing a square peg into the round hole. We have had Hunt emerge as a go to receiver, Clark has dropped a lot of balls last few games. Who knows what running back will show up, I still say Pittman is the best down hill power back we have but instead we get Davis who is ok, but not Pittman like. I dunno, its really hard to gauge things with the Oline is soo bad. Until that unit gets better, there is going to be too many unknowns.

Lead nation in penalty yardage and close to last in defense. Those are not Legg's fault.

If Doc fired Legg I am still all in with him. If he doesn't cut ties with him then I am done with all of them. Tired of watching predictable plays. I want motion. I want play action. I want misdirection. I want aggression. This crap is tiresome. Cato made Legg look good. Period. He went to the line his last two seasons with four plays and made the final call.

Also to pile on what @raleighherdfan said. A lot of that offense from 2012-2014 was "Cato to Shuler". Plays broke down wayyy to often and it was those two that kept it moving knowing where each other was.

No, that is only part of the story, when your defense is on the field due to several 3 and outs on offense, is makes defense look even worse than it should. No our defense is having issues with youth etc, but you can't ignore the offensive issues. We needed a strong offense this year to help the defense, and didn't get that.

Legg is in charge of the offense. Offensive penalties would fall under the jurisdiction of "His fault."

Plus getting a first down at some point would certainly help the defense as well.

I'm still on there. In fact, I am (as a retired Amtrak one) literally the engineer.

As an intense competitor, this is eating the poor man up. I have faith that Doc will turn things around -- that includes whatever changes he may have to make -- and you'll see a real difference next year. If not, I, too, will be on his ass. No one expected this -- most of all him.

I'm still all-in with Doc, however I do think he needs to become a much more explicit and interesting communicator with the fans. A lot, IMHO, of what is irritating fans is the lack of knowledge about everything. Not good.

Still firmly in Docs camp. 4 bowl wins, 1 CUSA championship , 3 straight 10 win seasons.

Yes this season is a disaster and I too am confused as to why except youth, a couple of key DBs sent packing and some crazy officiating.

The one thing I can see is the amount of muscle put on by the new strength coach and I'm wondering should we not go back to yoga once a week and slimming down vs being bulked up?

Sorry still behind Doc and the team and hoping they rescue the 2nd half of the season.

We're already in the second half of the season and have played 3 of the "weak sisters" of the conference, losing 2 of those games. Of the 5 games remaining, 3 are with clearly the 3 best teams in CUSA. With Zero leadership on the field and Zero leadership on the sidelines (coaching staff), odds of this Herd team "rescuing" the remainder of this season are slim and none!!!!

I agree, someone needs to communicate with the fan base on what happened and how it gets fixed

That might involve calling out players, I don't think that would be very professional of Doc to do. He does need to take care of player issues in house. If that means benching someone (maybe even Litton if he needs it) then so be it. Put someone out there that is willing to listen and learn.
