AP Poll - Marshall @ #26

While I understand the emotion, to go from zero votes last week to #26 is not chopped liver!!
We should understand the following imo:
Marshall has decent name recognition.
In the last 8 seasons, Marshall has shown no national profile wins to warrant 1 vote! All seasons! If we keep winning, the polls will take care of themselves. I guarantee you Coach Huff is going to tell this team that Notre Dame is in the rear view, and we keep on trucking to BG!!
A little road warrior mentality here - 3 road games in a row.

I think UNC got disrespected too, a lot of teams in the top 25 because they won a popularity contest. It’ll shake itself out.

You're a moron.
MU was ranked in the AP poll before. They also had recieved votes in the poll.

Few teams were low enough to lose and actually be sent out of the top 25. Houston and Wisconsin were the only two to really, for sure, be out.
If Oregon didn't, demolish that FCS team, I bet MU sneaks in.

In truth, I had completely forgotten about 2020. Such an * season, though! Grant pied piper’d us right up to the threshold, & then fight/scared/choked grabbed us like a kraken & we were done. Maybe that was on their minds??

Oh boy, I bet you just couldn't wait to use a Kraken reference for something, hoo hoo hee hee!!

Before the ND game Marshall was ranked 87th. To go from 87th to 26th is a huge improvement non the less. HUFF will have this team focused and ready to go Saturday at BG and I believe our leadership won't let there be a let down of any kind. I'm thinking 45-10 Marshall win.

To be fair, App State lost the prior week, regardless of how close it was, an L is still an L and it carries more weight for a G5 program.
MU beat down an FCS program, which can hinders MU advancing as well.
What sucks is playing another FCS game is going to hinder us the rest of the way out. I know we beat ND, but I believe we may have just killed their season. If we're in a hair splitting match with other teams for the Access Bowl at the end of the season that second FCS game might keep us out.

This is why Huff needs to go out and lay about 70 points on them.

Herbstreit noticed something before the game Saturday which caused him to go our way. A feeling, maybe or he knows something about this team we don’t know well enough…what is it?

He knew our reputation and he saw through the ND hype. He gets a lot of crap, but he usually know what he's talking about and he's seen us enough over the last 30 years to know we can be a really dangerous team. On top of that ND has a lot of question marks.

99% of the people picking ND did so by looking no further than the helmet. That was it. Although if you go to the ND boards they're now realizing that our roster wasn't exactly as bad as they had assumed. We have guys all over the two deep that either played at big P5s or were recruited by them.

Take a guy like Corey Gammage for example. He had offers from Auburn, Florida, Iowa State, Miami, Rutgers, Syracuse, and WVU.

Steven Gilmore. The guy that took their hearts our and stomped all over it had offers from UGA, KState, Louisville, and S Carolina.

Charles Montgomery who had some huge catches in this game had offers from Bama, Arizona St, Arkansas, Florida, FSU, UGA, GT, Iowa State, Maryland, Miami, Minnesota, Nebraska, tOSU, PSU, Pitt, Rutgers, S. Carolina, and WVU. Along with several G5s.

Koby Cumberlander was on his way to Michigan State before Doc flipped him. He also held offers from Iowa State, KState, and VT.

Then you sprinkle in guys like Henri Colombi and Khalan Laborn that have played in front of stadiums like Notre Dame and won before. Playing for Texas Tech and FSU.

No our roster is way better than many of the "experts" just assume it is. They saw storied ND vs a SBC team and just assumed it would be a route. That we just didn't have the talent.

Same goes for Appy vs aTm and Ga Southern vs Nebraska.

You would think at some point these talking heads are going to realize the talent gap for most of college football is not what they believe it to be and start giving us respect. They always act so surprised when we knock someone off. They barely know our players' names and all the highlight packages have been about ND and aTm. Not Marshall and Appy.

Well said.

I think what makes the Texas A&M loss more shocking, was Jimbo Fisher isn't exactly new to coaching. He's got a resume of winning. One thing about ND is Freeman is a novice HC so, yeah, a loss to Marshall isn't acceptable, but also somewhat forgivable in year one. Their fans love him but were skeptical about he being a HC.

But, you did disagree with me on how this is going to expose people like Saban. Saban was in absolute trouble with Texas who, by all accounts, wasn't supposed to be on the same level as Alabama...yet.
It took a miracle injury of Texas' QB to keep that game even...trauma inducing flashbacks of the NC game with Colt McCoy BTW.

I said this is actually going to level the playing field, moreso in the P5 than G5 but it applies everywhere.
All the low-mid level P5's will need are some high level players and a young, innovative HC to use that talent.
The portal is going to land the G5's, some guys that absolutely are as comparable to the P5's rosters (as you pointed out).
The coasting from Saban and his types, are going to soon get a wake up call that they will actually need to run their programs again, as a HC and not as a figure head.

Texas A&M bragged about spending some $4 million on NIL (likely more), building a team who (on paper) was supposed to be like the 2019 LSU team, and then App State went out, just took that money,
and burned it right in front of their fans and AD.
I loved all of that.

Saban is the greatest coach in CFB history. While yes the field is going to level, more often than not a Saban coached team is going to be at the top. Also you're comparing Bama to Texas. On paper they are equals. It's just for whatever reason Texas has been a very average team for about a decade. It's like Colt McCoy took the program with him when he graduated.

The truth is Notre Dame is not the team everyone makes them out to be. They haven't been since the late 80s and early 90s. Think of their best years since then. They usually end up facing a really good team at the end of the season and get pounded. It's just that "It's Notre Dame". I'm not trying to detract from our win, but they are not the program they continue to be billed as and haven't been for several decades. If they were then Brian Kelley wouldn't have left.

Since ND last won a national title they are 10-16 in bowl games and you have to go back to 1994 for their last major bowl win. They haven't had a Heisman trophy winner since 1987.

The true leveler to CFB will be the expanded playoff. When more teams have access it will open recruiting up more to teams that couldn't before because they'll now have a shot.

We will blow out Bowling Green and getting in the top 20 or 25 next week.
