This isn't a debate on if Apple products are overrated, overpriced, etc. Frankly, in photography, music, and other areas, Apple products are the best to use and seamlessly transition to their plethora of products (iPhones, iPads, Macbooks, MACs). The fact that they've done such a good job marketing and building their brand means everyone else uses their products, so many industries have almost exclusively turned into Apple products making them more valuable.

But I'm really fvcking annoyed now. Yesterday, I bought a new Macbook Pro . . . paid more to have some software that I needed added. Without the software, I paid about $2000 for it. However, B&H Photo (a huge photo/music merchant) has a deal I found out about today that is basically the same computer for $1400, $600 less than the base price I paid Apple.

When I contacted Apple, they gave me a bunch of bullshit. First, it was that they can't do anything if an authorized reseller of their products decides to drastically drop the price. Bullshit. Manufacturers can and do sign deals limiting how low a reseller can sell products for. On top of that, why would I continue buying directly from the manufacturer (Apple) when resellers have it for far lower prices? The supervisor then tried claiming that the product I bought yesterday was better than the one being advertised for $600 less. I asked to give me specifics. She said that the one I bought from Apple had a better processor and graphics card . . . I asked her what type of processor and graphics card was in the lower priced model, and she didn't know. In other words, she was speaking on bullshit she had no idea about, only to then backtrack and say she would need time to figure it out.

She then sent me to a sales rep who would better be able to answer my questions about specs. He confirmed exactly what I had said. Everything was the same except the lower priced one had a dual core processor at 3.1 GHz while the more expensive one had a quad core at 2.3 GHz. He said the higher priced one would be slightly faster, but that it "definitely isn't a $600 difference."

The team manager then got back on the phone and tried giving some bullshit about how she could offer an "educational discount" that would give me five additional applications for free and also lower the price about $200 than what I paid yesterday.

Bullshit. I shouldn't have to spend 90 minutes on the phone wheeling-and-dealing to get a competitive price directly from the manufacturer.

was talking to one of my buddies from nova today at lunch. he works for the dod plus owns a car wash and a car dealership up 66 toward winchester. anyhoo, dude was a cocksman back in high school, slayed all kind of puss. he was the epitome of the old saying, 8 to 80, blind crippled crazy, high chair wheel, he'd fack 'em anywhere. so, he has a niece the same age as my son and they've actually been best friends since kindergarten, or shortly thereafter. he's asking about my kid and says his niece is always talking about him, yada yada yada. goes on to tell me his niece is coming over to spend some time with him and to tell you that you should have bought a fvcking ipad off of some jackass from craigslist.

Just wait until you have a simple problem and the Apple store says you’re better off buying a new one because they have to replace unbroken parts. They are notorious for it. . .

It looks like some of the moisture detectors are triggered so we’ll have to replace the motherboard, hard drive, and ram to fix your sticky “s” key.

That is the shit I love to do. Call their bluff. Not enough people do this. I got this shit car shopping. "Well we are offering more cash on the hood than that other brand". Really? How much are they offering? "Uh, I don't know". Well how about fvck you, you bullshitting SOB? "That other dealer can't match our price" Really? What price did that other dealer offer me? "Uh...."

For fvcks sake, I just saw this with Trump and some reporters. Trump is saying "I don't know if Soros is sponsoring the caravan, people say he is." Not a single reporter asked "Who says so?" Dumbasses.

That’s your fault for not shopping around first

I can cancel the order and/or return it. The point is that Apple is selling their own products for nearly 43% more than a reseller. That's not a good look.

Imagine going to a Ford dealership and seeing a brand new car for $20,000, then seeing the same brand new car for $14,000 at Jim Bob Cooter's Corner Car Lot. Ford wouldn't allow that. They set parameters on what cars can be sold for new, as do many companies with their products, as one asshole can totally disrupt the market for them.

I've had iPhones, iPads, and Macbooks for 10 years. I've heard the stories, but I have never had too much of an issue. I've had the same model phone for three years. I've had to return it twice (once in Florida, once in Texas) because it goes bad through no fault of my own. That's how they get people to buy new phones more often - stop updating older models/make them slower/drain batteries. Each time it went bad, it was within 10 months of a replacement from them. However, their replacements are only given a 3 month warranty. I bitch that it is pretty bad if they aren't willing to stand by the quality of their phones for at least 10 months. After I bitch enough and they look up my history with them, they end up giving me another replacement phone. I then complain that my $30 shield guard will have to be replaced, that I have to spend time/money going to/from a store, time transferring data, etc.

With the last two replacement phones, I not only was given the phones for free, but they also mailed me a new screen guard and the last time had the Apple store give me a new lightning cord and charger (neither of which have been opened).

They can be tough, but if you bitch and talk to them the right way, you can get your issue resolved without paying anything.

Yeah, well, try working with Direct TV for service. Those mother fvckers are pathetic on a whole new level.

Did you see apple earnings today? Sales down but prices points up significantly.

Different ballgame, as auto manufacturers pretty much cannot sell direct (yes, I know there is a movement to change that in some states). Dealers quite often sell below sticker, and can choose to sell for a loss if they wish (and sometimes actually do).

How are you getting the 43% mark up it’s a $600 difference which is about 30%. And it’s not the same machine. You would have a valid argument if both Mac books had the exact same specs programs etc. Are you sure the bh laptop is a 2018 model or is it the 2017. That’s going to make a difference in price as well. Is it a refurbished laptop?

You must have had the same math professors that Banker and BC did. Here's what I said:

The point is that Apple is selling their own products for nearly 43% more than a reseller.

The reseller was selling it for $1400. Apple is selling it for $2000. It's quite simple - you take the difference between what Apple is selling it for compared with B&H. Then, you divide that number by what B&H is selling it for. Hence, "Apple is selling their own products for nearly 43% more than a reseller."

Let me show you with something you can understand easier:

Yesterday, you gave 10 bodyrubs to little boys. Today, you gave 15 body rubs to little boys. That means you gave 50% more body rubs today than yesterday.

It's not refurbished, hence my "brand new" car analogy.

They do have the same specs other than what I mentioned - the B&H one has more GHz but only a dual core processor compared to the quad core in the one that I bought. All other specs are the same.

It's what I said earlier: If you go to a car lot and see a brand new 2019 model of a car $10,000 more than a brand new 2018 model that looks exactly like it, you want to know what improvements took place in the 2019 model. Most likely, there will be slight differences in appearance, some improvements or added features, etc.

With these two Macbook pros, that isn't the case. The only difference is the GHz/processor, which as the sales rep admitted, is definitely not worth $600.

I was looking at it as less than the 2000 not more than the 1400. So my mistake

. No you didn’t say the brand new 2019 vs the brand new 2018. You said the same new car. I’m willing to bet the apple model is the new release and the bh model is last years. Sure there may not be much different on the inside but it’s the new version and you will pay a premium for that

Makes sense what apple is doing. They are not going to devalue their price points themselves.

Disagree. Instead of going directly to Apple stores/websites like I've done in the past, I know will be shopping around knowing I can save 40%+. At that point, I am prey for other companies. If I am at Best Buy or browsing B&H's website, I suddenly have tons of other products being marketed to me from other manufacturers.

That's a good move on your part.
