This isn't a debate on if Apple products are overrated, overpriced, etc. Frankly, in photography, music, and other areas, Apple products are the best to use and seamlessly transition to their plethora of products (iPhones, iPads, Macbooks, MACs). The fact that they've done such a good job marketing and building their brand means everyone else uses their products, so many industries have almost exclusively turned into Apple products making them more valuable.
But I'm really fvcking annoyed now. Yesterday, I bought a new Macbook Pro . . . paid more to have some software that I needed added. Without the software, I paid about $2000 for it. However, B&H Photo (a huge photo/music merchant) has a deal I found out about today that is basically the same computer for $1400, $600 less than the base price I paid Apple.
When I contacted Apple, they gave me a bunch of bullshit. First, it was that they can't do anything if an authorized reseller of their products decides to drastically drop the price. Bullshit. Manufacturers can and do sign deals limiting how low a reseller can sell products for. On top of that, why would I continue buying directly from the manufacturer (Apple) when resellers have it for far lower prices? The supervisor then tried claiming that the product I bought yesterday was better than the one being advertised for $600 less. I asked to give me specifics. She said that the one I bought from Apple had a better processor and graphics card . . . I asked her what type of processor and graphics card was in the lower priced model, and she didn't know. In other words, she was speaking on bullshit she had no idea about, only to then backtrack and say she would need time to figure it out.
She then sent me to a sales rep who would better be able to answer my questions about specs. He confirmed exactly what I had said. Everything was the same except the lower priced one had a dual core processor at 3.1 GHz while the more expensive one had a quad core at 2.3 GHz. He said the higher priced one would be slightly faster, but that it "definitely isn't a $600 difference."
The team manager then got back on the phone and tried giving some bullshit about how she could offer an "educational discount" that would give me five additional applications for free and also lower the price about $200 than what I paid yesterday.
Bullshit. I shouldn't have to spend 90 minutes on the phone wheeling-and-dealing to get a competitive price directly from the manufacturer.
