As expected Maria did some serious damage in PR.

Most of the homes aren't built to code & the ones that are can only withstand a CAT 2.

Uh, they are US citizens, they can come and go to the mainland as they please.
I can't believe I forgot that (I honestly can't). Up until this week I was considering a trip to Costa Rica & I think I had a brain fart & got them mixed up. Too many damn natural disasters going on.

I am pretty sure Wise is well aware of that.
I was, but I had a complete brain fart. Apparently at 41 the mind starts to go. Oh well, I had a good run. I think I've even posted stuff on here about their recent elections & why I think it would actually hurt them if they were the 51st state (their taxes would crush any chance they had at growth.)

I wasn't trying to be snarky. I have spent several weeks/vacations there. I really like it, the people are super friendly, beautiful waters, rainforest, beaches, and a ton of history. I would have sheltered in one of the old Spanish forts, wonder if they let people do that in advance of the storm?

Oh, and they already pay full SS and Medicare taxes. They are the only U.S. Territory that is required to do so, most pay 25-40%.

I didn't take it as snark. Total brain fart on my part. He's not for everybody but I like Peter Schiff (a little too anti-tax for my liking but nobody likes taxes). After watching him get interviewed a number of times about his relocation to PR, I want to go.

I visited there recently. I got to visit El Yunque Rainforest, Castillo San Cristobal, and spend some time in Old San Juan. There were something like a million jewelry stores there to prey on the tourist. And I agree...Castille San Cristobal would have been an excellent place to ride out the hurricane. It sits high off the ocean and there are miles of tunnels running underground.

reports are one river is 50 feet, yet 50 feet above flood stage.

our country has three major rebuilds after urricanes(texas, florida, and now puerto rico/us virgin islands).

put in perspective 30 plus inches have fallen in the mountains there. The flood that ripped parts of WV last year dumped about 8 inches, maybe 10(not for sure) in some spots. Think about that. Maria is not done dumping rain yet. Plus it is over the entire island. This is a monumental natural disaster.
