The horsepower the big 3 are getting from the new age smallies is ridiculous.

I still have the IROC I had slipped a 450 horse 350 in back in '94. It was scary. Saw 145 in it on a 2 lane back road mile long straight. Stupid. Engine swap to a 350 horse motor and my kid drives it now. Detuned it down to under 3 for him.

450 is more than enough for a street car, I can't even imagine 800. Have one buddy that has a 550 hp camaro, like a 2015 or '16. He said he thought about putting a blower on it to up it to 750 horse, but figured.....why?

My mechanic has a Hellcat and a new ss camaro. Says the cat will smoke tires at 50.

The LSX engines are plain nasty and 1000 hp is easily obtainable for around the same cost or less than it use to take to get 1/2 that number out of an older gen smallie or big block. It's nuts.

We were always faster. For all the talk of the stock A80 Supra Turbo being so fast, a stock Z06 Corvette would still smoke the shit out of one. And for all the tuners making 1000 HP with a Supra, other tuners were making the same or more with Vettes. Like FAN said, LSX 1000 HP is pretty easy.

The engine technology has just gotten better. Stuff tuners did now comes stock, because modern fuel injection systems can make the power and have good emissions...something tuners were NOT doing on those Supras lol.

It is crazy power, and reliable power with good emissions. The technology has gotten great and affordable to mass-produce.

But yeah, at a certain point it is overkill. I have driven a 800 HP car on the strip. A 56 Chevy with a 572 lol. 800 HP that actually handles good so you get confident and really push it on the road? That's how you get killed lol.

night before last, the wife was called to the ER. had an 18 year old and his girlfriend, neither made it. he was driving a corvette. the "word" was it was wet roads. the common sense in me says it was an 18 year old and a corvette. just so happens the car he hit head on after spinning the car around in the road was his grandparents. they're both in critical condition. sad situation all the way around. and, i'm sure that wasn't a 800 horse vette.
