This keeps getting better and better. Brett McMurphy just reported that Aubrey Hill just quit for the same position at FIU.

Marshall dodged a huge one with this.

Kevin Beard went to Tennessee and Aubrey probably saw an opportunity to stay in Miami.

We will find someone else. No worries

He was just looking from someone to take the stain off. He never wanted to be here, can't believe Doc did this "service" for him.

I mean this is for the greater good herdnation. Hill wasn't really sold on living in Huntington. If you don't like where you live, you'll half ass your job!

Call Ron Turner.

Or go out on a limb and give Gerard Parker a shot to redeem himself.

Turner is a good guy, but he is a horrendous recruiter. If you are bad in recruiting as a head coach (which is hard to accomplish since it is easy to be a good recruiter as a head coach), you'll be terrible in recruiting as an assistant coach.

Parker . . . two weeks after his arrest, you want to hire this guy? We would have a new quarterbacks coach with a DUI and a new receivers coach with a DUI. What kind of message are we sending to recruits, parents of recruits, and players? If a player gets a DUI, how do you punish him? If you're willing to hire a coach from another school two weeks after an arrest, you definitely can't punish a player any worse than that for doing the same.

Fair points.

I'd love Turner here as a QB coach. I understand Goebell has that gig along with Co-OC duties but I think a guy like Tuenr could really add some value. I know for a fact he was a prime candidate for a position on the staff before the Hill and Brown hirings were announced.

I understand Parker has some warts but I feel like we're crucifying the guy for making one bad decision. He got pulled over coming home from his going away party and I believe that was his first offense. I'm not trying to downplay DUIs because I take them very seriously having personally been impacted by them - but I do believe people deserve a chance at redemption.

Keith Williams at Nebraska got his third DUI last year and was kept on staff. Giving Parker a chance after his first wouldn't be unprecedented.

I didn't consider Turner as being a QB coach due to the recent changes the staff made on offense. Turner has a great reputation as a QB coach. But his coaching experience with QBs is all in pro-style offenses. The QB he had at FIU had/has some solid potential. Yet, his growth has been minimal since his freshman season. How would Turner fare coaching QBs in anything other than a pro-style offense, especially college offenses which are far more diverse than NFL offenses? It's entirely different for a QB, hence also for a coach. It still also leaves a lot to be desired in terms of recruiting.

I agree about giving a second chance, but two weeks after his arrest? No thanks. There needs to be some accountability. Hiring somebody just two weeks after his arrest is a bad signal to give and doesn't hold the person accountable. Hire him after he goes and coaches FCS ball for a couple of seasons without getting into trouble.

I look at DUIs as a more serious issue than I think most people do, and I can accept that. But I also don't think all incidents of DUIs are an ethics issue or representative of a person's character, so it shouldn't be an automatic career death sentence. In saying that, Marshall is better than being the first landing spot for coaches with that baggage. Let them prove their worth elsewhere first.
