Baseball stadium update

Why are they waiting for the demolition to be completed before beginning the design phase?

The baseball park will be built in Huntington, hopefully by March of 2024. If its May or June of 24, ok, we should be good.
I know people like to be skeptical, I was too. I firmly believe this is going to happen this time. It looks like Marshall has a good financial standing. I believe Marshall has an outstanding group of people pushing us to the next level. If Brad Smith says it going to happen, I’m in. Christian Spears is a winner. Instead of mocking the effort of building the ballpark. Donate. Get involved. Quit making jokes about it. Again, donate. If the baseball field is funded, donate to the other sports. The Big Green is easy to work with. Multiple ways to give over time. Monthly , quarterly, ect.

I'd say it's more of seeing what they can fit in once the land is totally cleared and ready for construction. I'm sure they have what they want and in different layouts. Will depend on the area and how much. I like this process much better than the original - that's why bids came in 8 Mil. over budget. jmho

I love seeing the process moving finally forward but whoever the construction management firm that oversee the work need to be fired for letting a "very unsafe" demolition execution. Hopefully this is not a subcontract work being executed on Marshall legal paper. One accident will cause the whole work process to stop, and OSHA will have a good ole time.

Believe it when I see it. We “broke ground” at a totally different location not 18 months ago.

IF (the largest word in the English language) this is really the deal then this is the right thing to do. A small baseball field, not an elaborate minor-league level park like was “broken ground” upon back then and the pipe dreams for have held this project up for decades.

I am not an expert on land development, but I am venturing to guess it is going to look like a vacant fvcking lot.

C'mon, Sam!! You've been around these parts ("HERD Country") long enough to know that "broke ground" is not the key phrase to recognize!! It's when they start throwing around a term like "game changer" that you really have to wonder and worry!!! ;)

Reactions: The Real SamC
Spears and Smith announced the funding plan is in place and approved. These dudes aren't Hamrick and some other Prez. They aren't gonna have their reputations tarnished by being all talk and no do. Now whether it's entirely finished in April 2024 to play the season, that's another story. They've got 18 months to get it done.

This. I think Smith would rather sell off a portion of his Intuit stock to fund the stadium than have this fall through under his watch.
