As we look to next year specifically, it doesn’t seem to be realistic to believe we will be any better than this year’s team. Perhaps McKey and/or Early can make a jump like the one Obinna has taken this year, but if Kinsey leaves (a transfer seems much more likely than the NBA draft), I just don’t see anyone on our current team stepping in and making up for the loss of Taevion’s productivity.
Let me emphasize that I am totally appreciative of Coach D’antoni taking us to the NCAAs and winning our first game ever in the Big Dance. I even believe there is a possibility he can right the ship and this team can finish out this year playing well enough to be a tough draw for opposing teams in the CUSA tourney. But looking at next year, with the strong possibility of no Kinsey and no new impact players coming on board, it is hard to be super optimistic. I won’t even allow myself to consider the possibility of Obinna entering the portal…
