Anyone know when we can start working out again?
'meister - I though I read about the hardwood surface being covered over with...tartan? I remember we did that a long time ago and results were less than positive. Do you know what has changed in the meantime? I imagine it would/could cut down on injuries? Thanks in advance...
I believe a poster was being sarcastic. I have NEVER heard that. From what I understand, the floor will be stripped, re-varnished and new logos on the floor. Expect to see a different mid court design for sure. I know that Danny wants to use a logo that incorporates the state of WV outline like his shirts do.'meister - I though I read about the hardwood surface being covered over with...tartan? W-S, believe the original surface at the CAM was a tartan floor, and wasn't a cover over a hardwood floor. Perhaps due to some flaws, perhaps settling, in the concrete floor underneath, the tartan surface soon cracked and had to be replaced. Just the first of many design/construction flaws and deficiencies in the HC which has plagued MU for decades.
All correct. The idea that we were replacing the floor with tartan was just a sarcastic post in a thread about the new paint job on the current floor, which is rumored to be a throw-back deal with the Marco in a sailor hat logo.
The original HC was supposed to be also for the PE and ROTC programs. The entire floor was covered with this tartan stuff. The lower level seats all rolled back to reveal more courts and an indoor track.
The floor cracked and the seats did not retract. Eventually Huck obtained a regular temporary wood floor. and put it over the tartan, and they stopped retracting the seats because they were afraid they would not roll out again. Whole thing ended in court. MU won. The floor was resurfaced, and current lower bowl seating, which is permanent, was built. This reduced capacity by about 900 or so.
The tartan surface was billed as a lower cost option for places that could leave the floor up all the time (rather than the jigsaw puzzle floors used in civic centers, but it was a fad. IIRC, Tennessee and NC State had it back then. Probably a lot more places.
I remember that Dayton was the first floor I ever saw with itAll correct. The idea that we were replacing the floor with tartan was just a sarcastic post in a thread about the new paint job on the current floor, which is rumored to be a throw-back deal with the Marco in a sailor hat logo.

Wow.............I am so gullible! Why would I think you would cover over a perfectly good hardwood floor with a layer of tartan, which sounds more like what you would have on the side with your seafood?? Yikes, maybe I am losing it! Glad to hear we are getting the wood refinished...I remember that Dayton was the first floor I ever saw with it
A Sailer Hat? Or a Beanie? Either way I’m not sure about that look. Never cared for it.All correct.
