Don’t seniors have the option to come back next year? If so, any word if any will?

No inside knowledge, but I would hope Byers does. I think he has more upside than any of the other Srs. I would like to see Jared become a grad asst. He wants to coach long term. George is another Sr. who could continue to improve, and I sure hope we have him available next week!
DD stated after Charlotte that depending on who is returning, it could be an interesting roster next season.....

My daughter and her fellow seniors all chose not to come back for their 5th year this season. Granted they played a different sport and regardless of a recent discussions about genders in sports I think young ladies probably have a different outlook on sports as they are closing out their college careers.

I think the biggest difference is when my daughter graduated last spring the playing of college sports was still up in the air. This year's seniors have a better idea of how their respective sports might be scheduled and played next year.

They are all young and this is a big decision for them to make. I wish then all wisdom and guidance to make the best decisions considering their respective situations.

It will be interesting to see when it all plays out.

Anyone know the deadline to decide? Are deadlines sport specific? Thanks in advance.

I do think We have a HC w/ a heart, a lot of BB IQ and a competent staff. The guys will prob get an evaluation from the coaches and make their decisions based on what they are wanting to do after college and whether or not they aspire to play somewhere professionally. A lot of college seniors today end up taking an extra year (or two) to bolster what has become the equivalent of yesteryear’s HS diploma! Also, of course, how the financial side plays out. Does the school pay for extra classes & room & board? Gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out....

So it begs the ? - if only Jannson & the Sr that didn’t play much depart, does that mean we only have 2 schollies to offer? And - do all of the underclass men hold their class (Jr/Soph/Freshman)?

Kinsey is likely to go if he thinks he can get drafted high enough. I’ve seen some folks had him at 16th.

Collins will get Rucker's scholarship for next year. We have none remaining. However with Braun already committed Danny is expecting one person leaving. In fact he has another offer on the table so that would mean another would have to leave or be asked to go. I also know that he is still looking for yet at least one more recruit to sign next month

Does Collins have to wait a year for his Ship? Jannson and Penava were a great combo. It almost feels like Jannson has had a hard time finding his place since. He has had a solid career. Has he scored 1,000 pts yet?

IF JW and Kinsey leave, we should still have a veteran and experienced roster for 21-22. I would like for both to stay but they have lives and life decisions to make.

Thank you and we've only STARTED having serious conversations about his future this weekend. He is 68 points away from 1000.

That would be pretty amazing........The #1 & #5 all-time leading scorers followed by 3 players getting into the 1000 points club in the same season. Here's hoping Jannson gets it!
We would LOVE for that to happen, but I think they only way that is going to happen is if we won the tourney and played at LEAST one game in the NCAA's

Let's hope all of that happens! Nice meeting you this past weekend.

Asked the question earlier but haven't seen an answer. When is the deadline to decide to come back and is it sport specific?

Thanks, I will certainly pass along this message.
I would love to see Jannson return!! I am sure you have noticed Jannson appears to be everyone’s favorite player, my father always told us you can’t hide class. Your son epitomizes that characteristic, and whether in basketball but certainly in life that should carry him to great success. It will be well deserved, we are especially proud to call him a Son of Marshall. You too.

Wow, thank you for that. I am truly humbled and gracious. I will pass this along as well.

I understand the commitment it takes to compete at this level, but I would love to see him play another year. Getting a graduate degree would look good on a resume

He definitely carries himself well and also represents MU well. From the respect he shows during the National Anthem to his interactions with young fans you can definitely sense that he is a quality young man.

+ you can’t teach NCAA tourney experience! Not many Marshall teams have gone 3 seasons (try never) between Big Dance appearances and boast 3 seniors who have been on a team that won a game in the Dance. Jannson, Jarrod & Darius have that. Will that experience factor into their play this week? Couldn’t hurt!

Would love to have him back, but we all need to realize he has been at MU five years already. Extra degrees can't hurt; want him back if that is where is heart is. It is perfectly OK to be done with this stage and desire to move on. Either way, I'm a fan and wish him great things as reward for his hard work in his focused efforts.

if healthy there is simply zero reason to not return. He will regret it in 20 years if he doesn’t. A chance to do what only a few have. No brainer.

I agree - unless Jannson receives the job offer of his dreams - later on in life - he will regret passing up the opportunity to continue playing the game he obviously loves. Adulthood and jobs will always be there - this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
