Beach Ball

Let people have fun however they want. So once or twice a game you have to lift your arm up to hit the ball. Whoopty doo.

Yay everyone's favorite worthless semi-monthly topic that gets everyone arguing!!!!! I have been waiting for this day all year!

You must live a lonely and depressing life
No just have my priorities in order and there to watch football and not volleyball which is as annoying as having a drunk walk in during the middle of the 1st qtr. Obviously if you want to play with balls you have a totally different issue!

You know what. I think we should get rid of the cheerleaders, dance team and band too. I am there to watch football. And sometimes those cheerleaders make me want to play with my balls too!

Leave it to a Marshall fan to come back with a Gay reference. I see nothing wrong with Beach Balls, it gets the crowd festive and ill make sure to unleash a few of them

The difference between the cheerleaders, band, and dance team compared to beach balls is that I, as a fan, would get to choose if I would rather look at those things instead of watch the football game. That goes for everything that schools do to increase the fun for fans at a game. None of them, other than the beach balls, take away my ability and choice to watch every single play of the game.

With a beach ball, I don't have that choice. Even if the ball only comes to me three times in a game, those are three instances I don't get to be in control of which could lead me to missing a play. Then, there are the higher number of times when the ball is batted around in the rows in front of you which block your view for a few seconds. When the ball is behind you, you know have to pay attention that it isn't batted down and spill your drink. You also don't want to have to deal with getting surprised with a ball bouncing off of your head while trying to watch the game.

Years ago, I was at a Marshall game where a few beach balls were floating around the section. It seems like a minor thing, but it was a huge annoyance.

It's like being at a concert, movie, or sporting event. It's normal for people to have to come-and-go out of your section for concessions, the restroom, etc. People accept that. People also usually have the tact to know it is a bit of a burden to make the people stand up out of their seats to allow you through. Most people with tact will say "excuse me" or thank/apologize the people for inconveniencing them. But, it's accepted. But, if a person does it 12 times in one game? The entire row starts to get annoyed.

There is a reason most major sporting events (professional games and major college) have ushers who don't allow people to go back to their seats until in between plays/end of a series, end of a half-inning, timeout in basketball, etc. It's because making people move and blocking their view when you pass in front of them, even for three seconds, is a nuisance that inhibits people from seeing what they paid to see. Beach balls floating all around blocking the view and forcing people to hit them out of the way (only to have to worry that they are going to get hit again) does the exact same thing.

Although it really doesn't affect me one way or the other, I'm not a big fan while the action is going on. I get annoyed when I'm trying to watch a play and people around me are lunging to hit a beachball. That being said...no biggy.

I am not sure how you didn't know that was sarcasm. I assumed that was very obvious. While I don't think the 25 seconds that you described really hurt you in a significant way, I could care less if they allowed beach balls or not. As I stated earlier in the thread, this is literally one of the most worthless conversations we have to have about twice a month during football season.

It was obvious. You were being sarcastic in saying that the cheerleaders and band should be dismissed because they, too, distract from the game while providing entertainment value outside of the actual sport. I know you weren't actually championing to get rid of those groups. Your point was that beach balls are no more of a distraction from the game than beach balls.

My point is that, as a fan, you get to choose if the cheerleaders and band are distractions or not. Regardless of what they are doing, you can still watch every play with them there and not have to worry about interfering with that. You don't have that same luxury with beach balls. They can be in your face and block your view even when they are rows in front of you.

Funny thing is, there's going to be people who bring them anyway and use them during the game.
People complained about all the advertising and down time between plays, that's when the ball happens...take it away, people will complain there's not enough going on during the timeouts and commercials.

Personally, I like the beach balls...distracts me from the annoying crappy local advertising...and I like seeing that POS security team fumble about trying to catch them. People often cheer when they come close and the ball somehow escapes and keeps going.
If you really miss a play because of a beach ball, just wait a few days for Dunk to put up said play on the internet...if it was really spectacular, ESPN will take notice...so don't worry. If it wasn't? Eh.

EVERYBODY SIT IN YOUR SEAT, SHUT UP, DON'T MOVE, AND WATCH THE GAME. AHHHH!!
This is the same thing i gather from reading some of these replies jeremy lmao..... sit down and dont blink and when we have a big play a nice quiet brief clap while staying seated is all that is allowed so we dont miss the next play by out fast paced offense. I mean a beach ball is That distracting? Really? I dont participate but it gives me a nice laugh when the yellow coats try to take it and miss.

Yeah, I love getting hit in the head by some stupid-ass beach ball - tons-o-fun! What I REALLY enjoy, though, is when a beach ball lands in/knocks over the mega-size soda of the person next to me, and I get all sticky and wet - hoo, boy, what a riot! Good times, good times.

Everybody bring one...it takes a lot of balls to sit 4 hours in 92 degrees and watch a football game!!GO HERD
