I wanted to post my thoughts on my experience with the bowl. The game itself, the atmosphere fans etc.
First off I thought the venue was great. It wasn’t held at a 65000 seat stadium where it looked like there were 10 people there. I had terrific seats 50 yd line 5 rows up from the Marshall bench. Even though I live not far from the venue it was my first time going to an event there. It’s home to the Dallas pro soccer team and other than Marshall I’m just not a fan of soccer. But there was plenty of parking, the concourses were wide, plenty if concession stands and bathrooms which being a pro stadium you would figure they would do that right.
I thought Scooters seemed to be into it as the sponsor as they had several contests and the public address guy was excited during the whole game. He didn’t seem to be an automatron.
Our fans, the turnout was light for Marshall fans and it seemed the majority of people that I met actually lived in the Dallas Metroplex, which was cool because apparently they are starting some type of Dallas club, I don’t know if it’s an alumni group or a game watching group etc but it will be cool. They have my email address and they reached out to me before the game so I’m excited about that. I did get to see a very good college friend of mine who I haven’t seen in several years. It was great seeing him!
Lastly the game itself The first half was exciting, the defense played pretty well the offense was able to put 17 points on the board and Ali was looking good. Second half was rough. UTSA kept running the same play or a variation of the same play on offense every play and they were successful. The DBs were way off the wr but then they would also miss the tackle. I’m like you got to pick one either cover the guy close or make the tackle right away if you are going to play off, we did neither. I thought Cole did OK but what do you expect, his line was awful, it was his 3rd start, a lot of our players didn’t play including our star RB who was crushing it in the first half. So he did as well as expected. There were a couple of plays that were inches away from being huge. The long pass that was dropped but there was also a slant that the Marshall wr had a step and there was no safety help behind, if it would have been completed the wr would have scored as he had nothing but green. Cole threw it slightly behind the wr and the db knocked it down. If he would have thrown it in stride it would have been 7 points.
Lastly besides us losing the game which always sucks no matter who we are playing there were a couple of things that happened that was disappointing to me. One was with our bench. As the game was winding down we had guys talking to the crowd l(parents, girlfriends etc) they were laughing etc. they did not seem to care that they were getting their ass kicked and our coaches did nothing they just let them do it. The other was in my section there were a couple of ladies who sat behind me and literally used the F bomb the entire game including MFer several times as well. I’m no prude (I can be a potty mouth) at all but I’m talking every time they yelled for the team which was constant it f this mf that the whole game. It was classless and embarrassing. I brought my next door neighbor to the game. He has no connections to Marshall, WV the Sunbelt etc., he is just somebody who loves watching sports. He’s a retired PepsiCo executive who has lived in the Dallas Metroplex for 50 years. He goes and watches North Texas and SMU. So I’m trying to get him
Interested in Marshall and maybe he will find Marshall a good team to support and who knows maybe make a big fat donation to. He’s a wonderful guy. He made a couple of
Comments like well they are sure into it with a cringe look on his face. I understand the party aspect of college football, I've had a few to many before I went into a game but especially on the road at least try to have a little composure because even though they lived in Dallas they were representing Marshall and Huntington. Just my .02
Aaron I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet you I didn’t get to go to the Big Green tailgate. But I did let them know. But I’m definitely going to our next bowl game and I will go to the tail gate and I hope I get to meet you.
