Bowl Game..

What are our options right now? I would think there are just a couple we would compete in.

They should do a secret ballot among the players to decide if they want to play in a bowl or not. Personally, I’d rather not play another game. It’s meaningless after we torched the season over the last 2 games.

These guys haven’t had a break to leave campus in 7 months. If they do decide to not play, they could head home for Christmas.

However, if they vote to play, let them play. They (not the coaches) deserve a chance to go out with a win.

I agree. Leave it up to the team.

Another consideration is that there is money to be made from Bowl payouts. Sorely needed in these times.

Our options right now should be ZERO. The last two games have shown that we are not bowl-worthy and the product of a ridiculously soft schedule. We celebrated the Appy State win earlier this year as if we had beaten Alabama. We were busy beating Appy State 30 years ago - why is that considered a great win. This is not a knock on the kids - they have done what they have been asked to do. Wells is a freshman - and it just showed the last two games when our coaching staff decided to try and treat him like he was a Heisman finalist instead of a freshman. Our game plan the past two weeks has been atrocious - trying to use the pass to set up the run put Wells directly in the crosshairs. We were best when we were doing the opposite.

Its not like we lost to good teams - Rice is pathetic and UAB is average at best. They certainly won't strike fear in the hearts of any opponents. We have had two pitiful losses in a row in the Joan. Inexcusable. We took too much time off mid-season and didn't really try to add a game when we needed to do so.

Our fan base should be completely frustrated and disappointed - but mark my words - our dipsh!t athletic director will give our incompetent head football coach another contract extension. Yesterday was awful. Tommorow will be more of the same. Hamrick and Holiday are two peas in a pod - embracing mediocrity and small-minded thinking. Frankly, as much as I love to watch The Herd play football, if I never see another game coached by the current regime it will be too soon.

One thing to consider is they may really be checked out. These players haven't seen their families since the early summer and as Hamrick was pointing out in the BoG meeting on Thursday they have lived in seclusion for multiple months. They can't go out. They can't hang out. They are stuck in isolation to keep contact tracing to a minimum. That is hard on anyone let along a college aged kid and even Hamrick pointed out that he's noticed some of our athletes really struggling with it.

It may be good for them to just let them go home.

Well said... much has been asked of these young men - and they have given all that has been asked.

I think you hit the nail on the head... Even the commentators during the game last night said more than once, "that the Marshall players seemed to have checked out of the game" Aaron Taylor specifically said "this doesn't resemble the same Marshall team I saw earlier this season".

It has been known all along that baring trades etc that the two most likely bowls are next Saturday in Mobile or Cure Bowl in Or. Both are tied to SBC teams

I guarantee though this might be said, it isn’t happening. No way a bunch of 18-22 year olds are sitting in there dorms because coach says to. Maybe a few but not majority.. home sick I can agree with

No our guys have been doing it all year. It's why contract tracing has been to a minimum. Even the players have talked about how serious they've taken it.

From what I saw the last two games, they might as well. They’re obviously no longer interested in playing football.

It seems strange that we haven’t heard anything yet.
There's so many moving parts right now. We might find out tomorrow or maybe not til Monday w ith teams opting out by the hour it seems and bowls changing locations. Wherever we land it's going to be a rush to get ready for the game.

Don't you think that some of these Bowl organizers as well as ESPN are contacting/feeling out teams as to their Bowl interest BEFORE the 4 hour show today where the playoff pairings and all the Bowl match ups are to be announced? See where Penn State has decided to forego a bowl. Surely before a bowl is announced on TV pairing MU with some opponent, those making match ups have to know that both teams are willing to play before the announcement is made!

The bowl game in Mobile, The Lending Tree Bowl, selected WKU and Georgia State a week ago.

Maybe they didn't get the memo that Marshall was suppose to be there?

Dec 26th noon ESPN
Cure Bowl

Camping World Stadium (Orlando, Florida)
Noon on ESPN and the ESPN App

Bonagura: Marshall vs. Louisiana
Schlabach: Marshall vs. Louisiana
This seems likely .......an ass kicking we will surely take. Think I’ll go see WW1984 instead!!

I think we leave it up to the kids. They need to know however what a bowl will look like with all of the restrictions that will be in place. It won’t be like last year. There will be no party time.
To me the team looked tired the last two games. Even with that the defense played well. The offense needs much more activity to stay sharp. The layoff between games was horrible. I’m amazed at how well they have done.
I don’t agree with the negative comment regarding Doc and Mike. Just what do you expect from them??

I expect effort, motivation & leadership, both on the team & from the HFC. I don’t think it’s too much to ask...

Let them go home. I agree with a previous poster that the team appears to be tired of being confined and have lost their focus. We fans need to just chalk this season up. I for one do not wish to see our team suffer another defeat unless the players honestly are prepared to play and for the moment they need a break - mentally as well as physically.

But why do all other teams I watch seem to play with fire and enthusiasm? Most teams have been through much the same issues and timelines/schedules as we have

Obviously ESPN who owns most minor bowls decided to match the #2 MAC team against the #2 CUSA

UAB vs South Carolina in the Gasparilla

Bah! There's way more street cred in us playing the #2 MAC team. I mean, years from now, people will still say, "Marshall...oh, they're the ones who gave Buffalo all they could handle; betta not sleep on Marshall then."

We're still reaping the success on defeating that one MAC team who won the conference that year in the bowl game we played like 4 or 5 years ago (when we turned down a very beatable B1G opponent). You know, that bowl game.

Who cares. None of these bowl games matter for anything. Especially for the G5. Getting bent out of shape about who we play us just foolish. Look at the "rewards" that Coastal, Liberty, and San Jose State got for their seasons.

LaTech beating Illinois in 2014 did nothing for their program. No one talks about that win.

Bowl season is meaningless exhibition.

I’m going to be as honest as I can the whole post season in college football is a joke. Ohio State played 6 games and is in the playoffs. Notre Dame got destroyed when they actually played Clemson with Clemson at full strength. Neither of those teams deserve the playoffs.

Lowest bowl payout of all bowls. Lose 2 games that should have been won and other teams in CUSA that you beat get the better paying bowls.

We'll get an amount equal to what all other cusa teams get. All bowl payouts are pooled and divided by some crazy mathematical algorithm they cooked up in the cusa ivory tower

True. All teams receive an equal share, team that actually play in a game receive 2 shares

I understand that, Our bowl is valued at $300K. WKU $1.5m. If we base bowl payouts as the best bowl to the worst we are definitely in the worst.

I don't know if any of you have been to Montgomery, but it's the A-hole of Alabama. My brother in law bought a business there, it's so bad that after 2 years he moved his family to Panama City Beach, FL and he commutes.

You’re right and, in my opinion, they got it or they would not have played 3 or 4 of those games. Some one did something right or we would have had more kids sick. I would have loved to play Pitt and Boise but who was to blame for that?? With that being said, getting mixed up with Conference USA was a huge mistake....IMO

OK - hear me now, believe me later:
Knox, Beckett & at least 2 other players will not be playing in the bowl game. Some ? about players leaving the program altogether .....No, it is not official / yes, my sources are usually reliable. That’s all you get from me until the AD makes it official.
