Well, the polls are showing us that there’s absolutely no shot at a decent bowl yet again. Cincy is about a lock for the G5 slot. I’d say at this point the best bowl opponent would be someone like Coastal(if they can beat Liberty and Louisiana again to finish undefeated). It would be 2 undefeated teams playing thereby guaranteeing one undefeated G5 team. It’s going to take crap like this to eventually have the “playoff” expanded past 4 teams. If we don’t get a decent bowl this year, it’s just never going to happen. Ticket sales are pretty much out the window for EVERY bowl game and whatever allotment ANY school gets they would sell out.

Being in CUSA all our bowl ties ins this year are with Sunbelt teams except one with the AAC scheduled one day after our championship game. Since the Sunbelt champion usually goes to New Orleans, it looks like the best matchup would be with their champ, probably CCU in New Orleans. No bowl activities this year. Teams will show up the day before the game. Not 5 days early like that past. As much as I would love to go BOWLING in New Orleans, this wouldn't be the year

The playoff will never get expanded on account of accommodating the G5. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but for the life of me I don't know why anyone ever thinks they care or will care about us. Every move they make is a calculated move to distance themselves from us.

We just need to stop worrying about the Playoff stuff. It's never going to happen. It's like with Cincy. Everyone keeps creating scenarios on how they could get in. It would take every P5 having two losses before they would even be seriously considered and even then I don't know if it would happen.

The NY6 bowl is a farce too. They have all the G5 fighting themselves for one spot that comes down to a committee of non-football people like Condi Rice who decide which matchups are more compelling. I was never a huge fan of the BCS, but at least multiple G5s could sneak their way into BCS bowls.

If making the NY6 bowl is anyone's bar for success you're going to be let down more often than not.

I'm not saying we shouldn't want to play in it, but as we saw in 2014 the deck is stacked against us.

MEMO:

EVERY bowl, except for the access bowl, in EVERY G5 league is not "decent" in to OP's terminology, in that they are "only" against either a G5 team or perhaps a rare 6-6 bottom feeder P5 team. That is all.

If you do not like that, then Marshall sports are NOT FOR YOU. Find something else.

If we stay ranked above 20 by the end of the conference championship game we may find ourselves in another bowl game that isn't a typical cusa bowl. Maybe something happens like in 2013 with the Military Bowl.

There is buzz around the program and we may be enticing to some other bowls as an undefeated top20 program.

They have had us in a bowl playing Missouri which would be pretty sweet. We could beat them and ending the season with a win over an SEC team would be nice. Even if they do suck.

Agree. I think we’ll get a MUCH better opponent than normal.

The other thing a team like Marshall has going for it this year, is that bowl games won't be counting on groves of fans showing up, so not having a huge fan following likely won't be taken into consideration. Should be on having the best matchup available for TV viewership.

You guys shouldn't be stressing over bowl scenarios... If Marshall wins out, and is the undefeated CUSA champ, we will get a decent spot against a quality opponent (be it Coastal, BYU, an AAC team or a P5 school). ESPN controls bowl season and they aren't going to stick a top-15 Marshall team in some garbage game against Troy State, Arkansas State, Akron, etc.

I've been hearing growing buzz about Birmingham on New Years Day, potentially against Coastal (if they win out) or whoever finishes second in the AAC (Tulsa or SMU).

True. The playoffs are run by the P5, not espn or the NCAA. Why would they want to share their mind ways instead of 5?
They promised us a NY6 spot if we voted them autonomy. We did and the contract was signed.

Any other year and I’d be all for playing Mizzou. If both Marshall and Coastal are undefeated and top 15 programs, there would be a lot of buzz around a game like that and it would probably do quite well ratings wise. A chance to finish undefeated having defeated what would be the highest ranked bowl opponent for Marshall would trump playing a P5 team in this scenario in my opinion.

Wanna bet espn, or whoever decides these things, wouldn't put a top 15, undefeated Marshall team in a garbage bowl? It will be a peanut bowl once again. I hope I'm wrong though.

You are right. ESPN carries a lot of weight with the bowls and they can broker deals with bowls to enhance their viewership and their tv $$$$

Some of you guys are delusional... Marshall has gotten "screwed" exactly once during bowl season in the last decade.

2011 - MU went 6-6, drew FIU in St. Pete (reasonable matchup)
2013 - MU went 9-4, lost CUSA title game, drew Maryland in the Military Bowl (Best matchup available)
2014 - MU went 12-1 and CHOSE to play Northern Illinois (We picked it)
2015 - MU went 9-3 and drew UConn (this is where we got hosed)
2017 - MU went 7-5 and drew Colorado State (reasonable matchup)
2018 - MU went 9-4 and drew South Florida (reasonable matchup)
2019 - MU went 8-4 and drew UCF (Best matchup available)

I so wish Marshall football wasn’t for you so you would find something else.
