If I understand it correctly, the algorithm will bring forward the most searched items and it can be gamed and manipulated. All the time on Reddit there are threads that promote certain searches in order to bring certain stories, pictures, etc. to the top of the google search. When a motivated group of posters decide to flood the search engine with specified searches it can definitely bring those results to the top.
It is being manipulated by both sides and has been used as a campaign strategy in the election. This isn’t anything new. So Trump might be right about some manipulation happening. That being said, much of the world believes him to be an asshole.
