Butch Davis

Butch Davis was the "Fall Guy" and was forced out at UNC-Chapel Hill because of the Black Studies saga...yet to be determined what will happen to the Tarheels. He will recruit well & WIN at FIU. Bad news for The HERD. He has been a winner at other college stops.

Memo to FIU management:

No one cares about your football program. Hiring a guy who used to be a coach at the college in your town that has a fan base years ago (left when current recruits were 2 years old) will not make them care. They don't care. You have no potential. You are not an untapped resource. You could go 12-0 for three straight years and still sell tickets for $6 (that is what they are going for, look it up) and still draw less than 1000 people. No one cares.

It is time to give up. Drop football. Find shelter in a good basketball conference and, considering the demographics of both Miami and of your student body, emphisize the hell out of baseball and soccer and move on.

As to Davis, no only will not only FAU, UCF and USF, and not only Doc Holiday's Marshall, but the two third of I-A east of the Mississippi that has predicated its program on getting kids the hell out of the slums of south Florida, continue to out recruit you, but you will end up on probation just like every school he has ever been associated with.

Oh, and no one cares.

Yes, a 64-year-old Butch Davis, after being out of coaching for seven years, will be the man to finally unlock FIU's unbridled potential. Hopefully his string of bad luck of always working for programs that committed major NCAA violations during his tenure will end.

First Butch was never implicated in any major violations.

Second He has only been out of coaching for 3 years and has a strong connection with the HS coaches in South Florida many who endorsed him for the Miami job last year. Granted wrote don't recruiting SE Florida as hard anymore, he will be more of a threat to FAU, UCF, and USF.

Butch was also the head coach of my Browns and has been the only coach to take the Browns to a playoff game since they came back in 1999.

I would trade Doc for Butch right in a heartbeat

Real issue, Herdon2, is whether you would get ANY TAKERS!!!!!

And that program nobody will care about just spanked us on TV. To use Coach Donnan's words, "You guys just got your pants pulled down on live TV".

I'd take Butch over Doc any day as far as football smarts. It's not even close.

Sam, I think you're going to regret saying that for the next few years..........especially while Butch Davis is at FIU. FIU man handled MU yesterday with an interim coach, imagine how FIU is going to be with a proven winner as their next head coach.

Just think about the upstart programs that have beat us this year. It's truly pathetic to think about how far our program is falling in a very short period of time. Next year will tell the tail. If we underperform again then we need to make a change. 1 championship since 2005 in what is now the weakest conference we may have ever been in.

I already know. It will be ignored by 99.9% of people in its town and 99.9% of its students.

We can argue about FIU sports as sports. Personally, I don't see them out-recruiting any of several dozen schools I can name because most of those kids want to GTFO of that cesspool. Argument for another day and time will tell. But really there is no argument about FIU sports as a business venture. No one cares. They could hire Nick Saban and it would not matter. There are 1000 other things to do and the sea of empty seats shows it. Over 80% of budget is subsidy, which is worse than even the lowly MACers. Their booster club has less members than you local Rotary.
