USA Today dropped the holy grail today of FBS assistant coaches pay for the 2018 season. This includes the ten full-time assistant coaches on each staff which doesn't include head coaches, strength coaches, analysts, quality control, player personnel, DFOs, etc.

Here is the breakdown:

1) North Texas: $1,720,000 (3)
2) FIU: $1,588,000 (2)
3) FAU: $1,500,000 (2)
4) UTSA: $1,370,000 (2)
5) UTEP: $1,318,000 (1)
6) MTSU: $1,255,000 (13)
7) Marshall: $1,230,000 (9)
8) Louisiana Tech: $1,215,000 (6)
9) Old Dominion: $1,152,000 (10)
10) UAB: $1,111,000 (3*)
11) Southern Miss: $1,100,000 (3)
12) Western Kentucky: $1,084,000 (2)
13) Charlotte: $1,044,000 (6)
Rice: N/A

For strength coaches - at least the head strength coaches - Marshall is 8th in the conference.

Another trend you'll notice is how salary pools tend to be higher for more recently hired head coaches who replace a fired coach (which excludes Western Kentucky and Southern Miss since their previous head coaches left for better coaching jobs). The numbers in parentheses represent the number of years that school's current head coach has been leading the program. When a program fires a head coach, it allows the new targeted hire to have the power in terms of salaries. To get the head coach they want, a school will be backed into a corner to increase the assistant salary pool. If schools who have long tenured head coaches like Marshall, ODU, MTSU, and Louisiana Tech had to fire their head coach, you can be assured that their ranking in this list would improve.
