A college football National Championship played on a Monday night?

They could have played BOTH pro games at 1 and 4pm and still could have played this game at 8:30 on a Saturday when college football is played.

When did this begin, I can't remember how far back this started and mostly WHAT was the logic behind it.

I loathe it.

It's been Monday night for a number of years. Playing on Monday night they control the market. The NCAA can't compete with the NFL and they realize that so they don't attempt it on the initial weekend of the playoffs

Playing the National Championship game on Monday night started with the BCS era. Where have you been?

Of course NCAA basketball does the same with a Monday night game. One of the reasons I never see a championship in either sport.

Reread the original post, I asked WHEN did it start and why. I aware it's been this way , way too long!

If a national championship in college football can't compete with low level NFL playoff games then college football is in serious trouble. True NYC has 22 million and WV has 1.1 million , but why we have to try and wake on a Tuesday and go to work bleary eyed is beyond me.

Anyhow Bama did it again. The SEC is once again back a top the conference rankings. They lost only 1 out of 9 bowl games and won a NC too boot. That is a statement. More so than wearing black on the sidelines and high fiving QBs that your too stupid to contain. 7-6 wooohooo! Lol!!!!

Seeyas in Septemba! 2016 should be interesting if nothing else. 2 ACC teams and a ton of sub plots.

when should they do it?

It is, after all, the ESPN National Championship. I would like to see all the G5s get together and have our own National Championship!

I had a sports reporter tell me once the reason they play those games on a weeknight rather than a weekend is because it puts the games on more tv's (ratings/advertising). According to him, if the game falls on a weekend, people en masse will hit up the sports bars where there may be more people watching but on way fewer screens. Put it on a weeknight, you may have fewer people watching but it will be on significantly more tv's.

Nah. That is like saying you wish WV would break high school sports up into 6 or 7 classes. Winning a group that small does not really make you a "champion". That would be five scholarship based "national champions (NAIA, Div II, I-AA, G5, P5) plus Div III and all of the random other deals. Plus we need the money from the P5 payouts to stay above the I-AA level.

What will happen, in about 10 years, is that the top 30-40 programs (none of which are named "WVU" ) will break off into their own semi-professional deal and the rest of the P5, all of the G5 and the top of I-AA will all be in (whatever they end up calling it) the second tier.

SEC went 9-2 (Texas A&M and Florida both lost) But, still I agree especially since all I heard all season long is about how the SEC wasn't the best conference anymore, they didn't have any Quarterbacks that could play in the NFL and all that nonsense from guys like Colin Cowherd
