Montreal signed Vernon Adams to a 3 year deal.
The Al's seem to have some real bubble headed idiots making personnel decisions. Rakeem played pretty good for a first year QB last year. Not saying I'll be worried over Adams beating him out for a spot or start, as Cato is a much better QB. They just don't seem to know what they want or what direction to go.

the buzz is he's done in montreal. he'll be traded or released before camp.

Cato spent a large part of the year hurt last year. Montreal saw this kid as being more durable, its simple business. Honestly, if I were a GM I would probably make a similar move.

Rakeem saw 2nd quarter action in a losing effort. 36-13. He threw a TD pass though in a pre-season game.

"Cato stepped on the field in the second quarter and didn’t take long to find the end zone, capping off a five-play scoring drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass to rookie 5-foot-8 receiver Chandler Jones in the back of the end zone." From the Alouettes web site.

GO HERD!!!

Popp, the Coach/GM has said all the negative speculation surrounding Cato is just that, speculation. He states he has had no trade talks, but that doesn't mean he won't trade him. He also knows Cato has value so cutting seems highly unlikely. Some say he played second the other night to show case him and he sure showcased himself. 5 of 6, the TD and over 150 rating.

Rakeem is a far better quarterback than Adams. While Adams might be a good athlete, he's incredibly short (the 5'11" listed is a joke) and isn't as accurate as Rakeem. He's a dual threat runner first, short game passer second, where Rakeem is a pocket passer that is just an inch or two under the traditional mold for drop back guys.

Adams not even dressed for the opener tonight. If a guy is supposed to be your future at QB, he should at least be dressed, especially in the CFL where QBs fall left and right. Montreal is going to start showing the old buyers remorse soon.

Cato has no competition other than Kevin Glenn with his many years in the league - but Glenn is a .500 QB who has bounced all over the league for 15 years with no trophy. Last night he reaped the benefit of the new Als receiver corps but looked terrible on long passes. He never delivered the ball where is was supposed be when the receiver caught up with it. He was lucky only to have one intercepted because he threw balls that couldn't possibly get to the receiver.

Talk to any Als fan and they will admit that Rakeem has the best skills at QB but they think that Glenn is the best answer right now - its the "Cato is too fragile" syndrome. As for Adams, he is too green and not yet acclimated and Air Canada aims the football and throws off his back foot. BTW, Glenn and Bridge stare down their receivers all the time and while Cato sometimes does, he knows better.
