I'll copy what I wrote on another board and its a very honest analysis of both..... beIN is going to be a very good partner for CUSA and they clearly spent the necessary dollars to make this game work..... campus shots were a very nice addition, for sure..... they spent real dollars developing a very eye-friendly graphics package and added a solid first and ten line...... their use of purple on the line of scrimmage ties their network colors nicely to the overall graphics presentation..... their "in-booth' look is terrible and clearly an after thought, I'd be shocked if they don't dress that up soon to give them a more "network" look..... as to comparing them to CBS-SN or Fox or ESPN, not close at this point.........but a very good start!!!
Here is my "review" from the other board: (first part is a response to someone's post on the sideline reporter)
Having spent 30+ years in the profession and hired scores of talent.......yes, she looks good on camera and I'm sure in person as well.....but my goodness, go back and listen..... she was just awful in her delivery and "actually" (a word that seems to proliferate her vocabulary) weak in content..... way to many words to say far to little.
PXP was weak, but the analyst has a real future in the business, needs to work on delivery and energy a little, but excellent content, very good analysis and solid voice quality.
Overall, the telecast was a good effort for a network that has done just1 football game previously..... their studio was solid and Donovan McNabb was on point.....was surprised how much their studio looked like ASN, interesting too that they are only about 70 miles apart.
What you could tell: They had good equipment at site, game had a solid budget and they clearly are a Network that will spend dollars on telecasts, I'm sure they will get better and better, there were way too many switching errors from the TD and again, overall commentator content on site was weak at best.............beIn could definitely beNifit from hiring more experienced talent.........but overall not a bad start and an "eye pleasing" watch. Graphics were well conceived too, visually (other than some "too solid" backgrounds) I liked the Gfx package.
Comparing to ASN: First and Ten line is a plus...(ASN has it, but execution has been weak -- used it yesterday on BC @ UMass)..... ASN talent for the most part is better, but give beIn a plus for hiring a sideline reporter (just hope she gets some help on her presentation and content -- ASN's Monica McNutt is better by far, when they use her on sideline). beIn had a slightly better equipment compliment on site than ASN and I think that shows......Love Doug Chapman in Studio, but beIn's "host" talent is excellent and D McNabb is solid...Doug has more experience though and it shows.
Compare the ASN telecasts yesterday: App State v. ODU or BC @ UMass and they compare favorably..... neither will win any awards at this point, but both are a solid watch.
