Many traditions in the history of Christianity have attempted to combat and correct the worship of three things: money, sex and power. Catholic orders have for centuries required “poverty, chastity, and obedience” as disciplines to counter these three idols. Other traditions, especially among Anabaptists in the Reformation, Pentecostals and revival movements down through the years have spoken the language of simplicity in living, integrity in relationships and servanthood in leadership. All of our church renewal traditions have tried to provide authentic and more life-giving alternatives to the worship of money, sex and power — which can be understood and used in healthy ways when they are not given primacy in one’s life.

I try to follow his teachings, and I demand our nations leaders do the same - do you?

DHERD are you trying to imply the Democrats are a party of virtue? Look we vote for a President not a Bishop. All we can hope for is they have some morals. Some have some other hardly any. That is why we must pray for them as the Bible tells us to do so. Romans 13:1 says God places people in positions of power.
So does this mean that God somehow “endorses” America’s new president or any other leader with all of his or her flaws and foibles? No. What it does mean is that God has a purpose for humanity, a purpose for current events, and He will accomplish that purpose through the leadership that He either puts in place or allows.

The Scriptures show that while God sometimes does indeed decide who will be the leading official of a nation, He also allows people to pick national leaders whose values are not those taught in the Holy Scriptures, even to their detriment. He once criticized His own anciently chosen people with these words: “Israel has rejected the good … They set up kings, but not by Me” (Hosea 8:4). The lesson is plain: God only approves of those rulers who have not “rejected the good” as He defines it.

I doubt the new testament scriptures you're referencing are talking about political offices.

HERE IS A QUOTE FROM THE BIBLE FOR YOU - I HAVE TO ADMIT IT DOES NOT SOUND ENLIGHTNED TO ME.
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I DECIDED TO READ THE BIBLE COVER TO COVER TO SEE IF IT REALLY WAS THE WORD OF GOD. WHEN I GOT TO THIS I STOPPED.

Leviticus 15:19-33
19 “Whenever a woman has her menstrual period, she will be ceremonially unclean for seven days. Anyone who touches her during that time will be unclean until evening.
20 Anything on which the woman lies or sits during the time of her period will be unclean.
21 If any of you touch her bed, you must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening.
22 If you touch any object she has sat on, you must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening.
23 This includes her bed or any other object she has sat on; you will be unclean until evening if you touch it.
24 If a man has sexual intercourse with her and her blood touches him, her menstrual impurity will be transmitted to him. He will remain unclean for seven days, and any bed on which he lies will be unclean.
25 “If a woman has a flow of blood for many days that is unrelated to her menstrual period, or if the blood continues beyond the normal period, she is ceremonially unclean. As during her menstrual period, the woman will be unclean as long as the discharge continues.
26 Any bed she lies on and any object she sits on during that time will be unclean, just as during her normal menstrual period.
27 If any of you touch these things, you will be ceremonially unclean. You must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening.
28 “When the woman’s bleeding stops, she must count off seven days. Then she will be ceremonially clean.
29 On the eighth day she must bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons and present them to the priest at the entrance of the Tabernacle.
30 The priest will offer one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. Through this process, the priest will purify her before the LORD for the ceremonial impurity caused by her bleeding.
31 “This is how you will guard the people of Israel from ceremonial uncleanness. Otherwise they would die, for their impurity would defile my Tabernacle that stands among them.
32 These are the instructions for dealing with anyone who has a bodily discharge—a man who is unclean because of an emission of semen
33 or a woman during her menstrual period. It applies to any man or woman who has a bodily discharge, and to a man who has sexual intercourse with a woman who is ceremonially unclean.”

there is nothing enlightened about the above.
it seemed more to me like a bunch of arabs sitting
out in the desert smoking something.

that is what I learned.

Well, DAMN! I wish I knew this before I got my blood wings

sorry to inform you, but if you did not wait 8 days then take two doves to the priest at the door of the tabernacle
you and all your fellow marines have been from that day forward unclean.
i'm guessing marines do not mind that much, if at all..

I’m not sure if you are speaking about the same blood wings as I, but to your point I didn’t mind at all

Here is what I learned. I learned I need to read it more. I am a better person today because of it.

Sorry, you might try to sell that but I ain't buying. Don't try to tell me you were fine with God speaking all of creation into existence, a man being made of clay and God breathing life into him, and Eve being made with Adam's rib, and Eve bringing sin into the world by being deceived by a serpent, and then tell me you quit reading the Bible at Leviticus because of unclean blood issues. Nope. No sell.

I’m not sure if you are speaking about the same blood wings as I, but to your point I didn’t mind at all
i had to look it up, you are a better man than me if you could do that, unless it was a very short pin
and i'm pretty sure it wasnt.

by not minding unclean i was referring to marine toughness.
