What helps you get jobs? Your working with qb's or recruiting?
This one was, from what I think, because of recruiting.
My last school was an FCS; it was in the transition period from D2 to FCS. It played an entire schedule against only FBS and FCS teams, was eligible for an FCS conference championship but couldn't compete in the playoffs, and was still not eligible to offer the full amount of FCS scholarships.
They played their home games in a sub-par high school stadium shared with two local high schools (they will have a brand new on-campus stadium next year). They are located in west Texas which has very little talent without a long drive and isn't a very appealing region. School costs are very expensive as it is a private school. Students have mandatory chapel each weekday which takes up 30-60 minutes of their day.
In other words, everything possible was working against recruiting there.
In my one season recruiting there, we finished 138th out of all D1 schools according to 247 Sports. There were 129 FBS schools last year (counting Coastal Carolina's transition). We finished 9th in the country in FCS even though we had absolutely nothing. At the FCS level, James Madison would be considered a top SEC team. They have unbelievable facilities, salaries, support, and are in a fertile recruiting area. They finished #159. Kent State finished #132. Akron finished #130. If I had been there this recruiting season with their brand new stadium on campus, their new turn practice field, having the full allotment of scholarships to offer, getting a ton of money for better meeting rooms/offices/gear, etc. I could have had them in the top 100 (which includes FBS and FCS teams). I would have had them ahead of 30 FBS schools, including half of Conference USA. I had a 3-star QB, a 3-star receiver, and a very good FBS transfer running back wanting to come. Even after our head coach had been fired, they continued to tell me that they were coming if I stayed. I would have liked to have seen where we ended up if that happened, but it would have definitely been in the top 100.
Another national ranking put us at 21st in the country in FCS last year.
