CONGRATULATIONS ODU!

Got to wonder how the ODU offense, with over 600 total yards against Tech, and their sophomore QB, who had nearly 500 yards passing and 4 TD passes, will fare against the Herd D in a few weeks down in Norfolk. You know, the Herd D that had ZERO, ZILCH pass rush against NC State and whose defensive backs couldn't locate and make plays on nearly all of the Wolfpack's passes.

First, hats off to ODU on the win of a lifetime. That having said, it was an upset. They aren't very good, so I wouldn't expect much else out of them for the rest of the season. I also wouldn't use their game against VT as any yardstick of measurement.

Our team sucks right now, but I still think ODU is a win.

I said this in another thread. This was an example of our sub 500 2010 team almost beating WVU with Geno Smith. ODU/Va Tech was a case of a P5 with no motivation on the road playing a completely motivated chip on their shoulder ODU team that played out their ass and won the game.

Just an FYI the week after we should have beat WVU at home we lost on the road to Bowling Green. We shall see how ODU does against East Carolina.

ODU was 0-3 with a 52-10 pasting at the hands of Liberty. They also lost at home to FIU and they lost to Charlotte. Yes that Charlotte. So pardon me if I don’t think this is anything more than a complete fluke. ODU will go back to being the bottom of college football next week.

Enjoy the win but let’s see how they do the next few weeks before we think they are out of the bottom 100.

We will see however ECU is the worst team on the planet so I am not sure how that will shape up...

Excellent analysis.

ODU made one of the all time upsets. Only a twisted read on this can be aimed at Doc. Doc has our program light years from where ODU is, or most probably ever will be.

ODU's players, and fans, take a lot of guff. They are ignored by 99% of the populace and 100% of the media in their own home town, while the team they were playing, located 100s of miles away in a place most locals have never been, is covered closely.

It was a once in a lifetime upset. It does not mean ODU is going to go on to great things, this year or ever.

This is false... they have new facilities, a nice market, and winning starts to make this progress. Look where Boise was 20 years ago. Not saying ODU will ever be Boise, but winning a little more each year makes this grow a little more. To say ODU will never be Marshall, that's a silly statement.

Not sure where Boise was 20 years ago, but 24 years ago they were beating our ass in Boise

Virginia Tech is well known for laying eggs early in the season.

They didn't lay an egg when we played them...

Boise? The team that was just boatraced by Okie State, which then got beat by Big 2, Little 8 bottom feeder Texas Tech?

Boise, which isn't all that itself, bears no analogy to ODU. Boise has a sugar daddy. It is a growing city, and the local corporations, particularly Boise Cascade, but also others, fund it (and a diverse set of other things) because they found "nothing to do" a common response when trying to lure workers there. ODU could win its step up game every year for the next 20 and nobody outside its current fan base would care. And not one kid offered by either VPI or UVa would turn either down for ODU. It is just another college in a state with a metric s***ton of state colleges playing sports. It is never going to be more than that in the Tidewater area.

Winning is the ultimately differential... winning MATTERS. Yes Boise- the team who has not just been to multiple, but won BCS bowls. I don't care what they look like this year. Their program is far and away better than any other G5 program as far as success the last two decades. I am not saying ODU is anywhere near that, or will be anywhere near that, but if they continue to win games it WILL grow the program. Media sponsors will want to be a part of it, so it doesn't really matter what a shit group like UVA says. That program itself is a joke. I would even say that area media would be more interested in an ODU and their up and coming success (if it happened) than UVA having a 9-3 season. ODU just sold out their stadium for a game where they were 0-3 going into it. If Marshall was 0-3 they wouldn't sell out for Alabama. So lets not be salty....
