Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr., a staunch supporter of President Trump, reportedly reviewed and rejected stories and opinion pieces written about the president in the school's student newspaper.

World Magazine, a Christian news publication, reported Monday that tensions rose between Falwell Jr. and the school newspaper, The Champion, when the Evangelical leader endorsed Trump for president in 2016.

Falwell Jr. reportedly required that editors disclose whom a columnist planned to vote for in the 2016 election.

and speech he should change the name from "LIBERTY". maybe he could also publish
information on graduation and job placement instead of burying them deeper than trumps
tax returns. i am certain that IF graduation and placement rates were even average he would
be sure to flaunt them.

one last thing as a small govt russiacon it is odd the the "thought control center" gets almost all
its revenues from the federal govt. typical.

Don't believe we're getting the whole story. However, like any editor, the paper can certainly control the content of the paper - and the article mentioned the paper had run one article on Trump that week. I'm sure editors in papers across the country operate in the same manner, "ran that story two days ago....let's go with something else."

My guess is the kid went on Facebook and whined how the paper had pulled his story. At that point, the paper probably sat the young man down and asked that he not air his grievances in a public forum.

Schmieg told the publication that he posted the column on his Facebook page instead, and was warned by school staff against doing so in the future.

"I didn't feel comfortable being told what I couldn't write about by President Falwell," Schmieg told World Magazine.

The World Magazine report cited Falwell's objections to the student newspaper as part of a broader pattern of Liberty University leadership stifling critical pieces student journalists pursued on campus.
