apparently the military is taking over turkey. Tanks on bridges low flying jets and military personnel telling people a curfew has been out in place. Either that or they are preparing for a large scale attack

Turkish military usually takes over when the government gets to Islamist. They do a decent job of keeping turkey moderate, at least historically

We (the West) are in that precarious situation again when a democratically elected government (or leader) turns authoritarian with an Islamist bent. Erdogan has been limiting freedoms and trying to beef up his executive branch/powers - it will only get worse now.
We're going to need a Raoul conspiracy expert here...but who starts a coup (especially a country like Turkey where they know how to do it) without arresting the President? They started this stuff while Erdogan is out of the area and safe? Doesn't seem like a solid plan at all.

They were able to turn off tv and Internet at some point but it wasn't for long
Moron turkey may be a majority Islamic country but they are far from an Islamic govt. everyone paying attention understood what he meant.

They might be more moderate than say Iran or Saudi Arabia but they are still looking an Islamic Country. And the CIA is now made things worst like always
We had zero to do with this. Erdogan has become an asshole, but he's our asshole and is in charge of a very strategic nation...we are cool with this status quo.
The coup had attack helicopters in the air while Edrogan was on his plane in the air. And yet he landed safely. That's enough for me to think this was a very shrewd false flag to purge the military of dissidents, consolidate power, and wave the flag for his supporters.
He's already overthrown thousands of judges in the last 24 hours. He'll probably replace them with more Islamists that don't share the Ataturk vision for Turkey as a secular government.
Like you say, I think the U.S. is ok with Erdogan, but they're heading down a path in Turkey toward authoritarian rule with a heavy Islamic bent...and that never seems to go well.
For whatever reason a huge chunk of the population is ok with it, so messing with their democratic process is dicey. You can argue though that elections won't be that democratic when you're stifling free speech and have no strong free media though.
i saw a report today, edrogan's government claiming two coup f-16s had the presidential plane in their crosshairs, but decided not to fire. sure thing, buddy.
they are now beheading some of the soldiers involved. several outlets in Europe speculating Erdogan staged this to begin with so he could "cleanse the moderates that were in power positions" by claiming they were behind and supportive of the coup...
