Using exit fees to subsidize programs that haven't even joined your league yet is the most CUSA thing I have heard in a long time...
If CUSA is allowed to use exit fees to subsidize the newcomers, meaning, I assume, that they won't be charging the newbies an entrance fee, how is it proper for them to charge the exit fee? Schools pay an entrance fee to get in, then pay an exit fee to get out. Is there any scenario that let's a school get out w/o paying the exit fee. I don't know what Marshall's entrance fee was, but that plus the exit fee is probably more than MU received in payouts.Apparently the plan is to use the exit fees to subsidize the programs. Which is a nice plan, until the $$ run out. $18M seems like a lot, but divided up 8 or 10 ways, its a weight room upgrade and some Diesel fuel for the bus.
According to The Athletic, MTSU and WKU are still waiting on the MAC to make up its mind. If they escape, the next targets are Stephen F. Austin State, Eastern Kentucky and Tarleton State, which was a D2 school until last year and won’t be fully in I-AA until the 24 season. UConn is apparently deciding if independence is better than this (it is) and UMass is so awful that CUSA doesn’t want it.
Maybe once you declare your exit you no longer have voting rights. With the majority of current CUSA school leaving the league, why couldnt those schools just vote to do away with the exit fees before they leave and none would have to pay anything
This is correct.Maybe once you declare your exit you no longer have voting rights.
Why would the MAC not just waive the application fee?... If MTSU can't afford to lose their part of the TV money from CUSA this year and next, they are in worse financial trouble than we know. And Brent McMurphy reports that the MAC is STILL waiting on MTSU.
Story is that the MAC wants WKU and MTSU as a package, does not want just WKU. MTSU would owe the CUSA exit fee and the application fee for the MAC. MTSU, which claims a live gate average of about 13K (anybody who watches knows that is a lie) is just plain broke. If MTSU cannot pay the freight, the MAC will either stand pat or look at getting some I-AAs in the Midwest to move up.
MEMO to MTSU: If you cannot afford to GTFO of CUSA, you cannot afford to be in I-A. Join the ASUN.
The fans on the MTSU board are not too happy... Great they will make 5-6 million in exit fees. Good luck turning that money into anything while playing a money-pit schedule of New Mexico State, Sam Houston State, FIU, Jacksonville State (of Alabama), etc.And MTSU makes up its mind. Apparently it doesn’t have the money and will stay in CUSA.
Huge mistake.
No word from WKU, but the rumor mills say the MAC wants to have an even number of teams and whatever partner WKU might have must be “geographically logical” for both the MAC and WKU. None come to mind, but then again if Sam Houston State is the standard, then who knows?
Once a school announces their departure they forfeit their right to vote. With the majority of current CUSA school leaving the league, why couldnt those schools just vote to do away with the exit fees before they leave and none would have to pay anything
A 25 year GofR is crazy. Who knows what TV will look like in 10 years, let along 25?One of the sticking points according to a WKU poster was that the MAC wanted both teams to sign a 25 year GoR deal. WKU was good with it, but MTSU was hesitant because they still believe they can catch on if the AAC or SBC makes more moves.
As far as the AAC is concerned, it has. Arseco can sell the MTSU=Nashville snake oil the same as all the rest, but they didn’t take them, so there you go.MTSU is gambling on the Merry-go-round not stopping just yet.
Yes. They have to compete for the scraps after Tennessee, which has a true statewide following, sucks up 99% of the attention, in city that has an NFL team and a very popular NHL team, plus NASCAR, Indy Car, and all the rest. Don’t see a lot of people getting worked up about MTSU hosing Sam Houston State. The fans on the MTSU board are not too happy... Great they will make 5-6 million in exit fees. Good luck turning that money into anything while playing a money-pit schedule of New Mexico State, Sam Houston State, FIU, Jacksonville State (of Alabama), etc.
The school in that part of the country that has always been a puzzle to me is Southern Illinois. Solid school. R1, with medical, dental, and law schools and serious non-cupcake PhD programs. 20K students. And the region its in is way different from the rest of that state and the people there should be ready to embrace something of their own.I don't know what their relationship is like, but WKU should probably be on the phone to Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois or someone similar to see if they might want to make a move up in weight class. If the geography requirement is a prerequisite.
And MTSU makes up its mind. Apparently it doesn’t have the money and will stay in CUSA.
Huge mistake.

Aside from Sammy now being a NM St fan, I'm still wondering why anyone is talking about the future CUSA at this point.
North Dakota? Sure let’s save on travel and go ahead and add Hawaii to the MAC as well or to CUSA so New Mexico State could have a travel buddy.I think the MAC should look at adding WKU and North Dakota. Would definitely improve their football.
What the fvck are you talking about, Samantha? SIU’s size fits in perfectly with the rest of the Missouri Valley football schools enrollment. The rest of the conference has an average enrollment of 13.4K. SIU’s enrollment is 11.4K.Yet they seem happy in the small time Missouri Valley conference, playing schools that are not their equal in size or academics.
They've stated several times that they have zero interest in moving up. They said why would they trade playing for national titles and one of the biggest fish in their pond to playing for random bowl games and being a small fish in a bigger pond. They said their fan base is perfectly happy where they're at.I think the MAC should look at adding WKU and North Dakota. Would definitely improve their football.
