Is taking a pounding right now. Charlotte, FAU, FIU, and Rice all took a pounding opening weekend.
This weekend was not a fair gauge of the strength of the conference, just as next Saturday will not determine just how good Marshall will be this season.
Judge I really enjoy your posts and most of the time I agree with you but I whole heartedly disagree with you on this one. If Marshall puts up a good fight with NC State next week and loses I think everyone on this board will breathe a little easier and think hey this could be a good season this year.
If we go to NC State and get embarrassed Akron or Western Kentucky style then honestly I think that bodes poorly for the rest of the year. North Carolina State is not one of the elites of college football. This isn't Bama or Clemson or Ohio State etc. They are a solid FBS school in a P5 conference. Nothing more nothing less. This is a team that Marshall should be competing with, if not then we should stop the FBS charade and move back down to FCS.
Western Michigan went across the country and went toe to toe with the number 4 team in the country in USC and were actually winning late in the game before falling in a close game. If they can do that we can play with NC State.
I'm not calling for the upset because I think our offense has a lot of work to do between now and Saturday for that to happen. But I actually do think the Herd will give them all they want and will keep the fans in the seats late in the game.
So yes we can get a gage on MU after the NC State game. We will either come out of it looking like a team that can take on and beat any G5 program in the country the rest of the year or we can come out looking like a team that will struggle with one of the worst schedules in FBS to go 6-6. I believe it will be the first one.
If Dillon were an good FBS caliber recruit we would have offered. Basketball is what he should stick to but I understand him liking football more.Marshall77 give Kiffin and FAU one year and then see Jeremy Dillon from Mingo Central play against us. Yeah I know. He's "verballed" DD for basketball but football is a passion. Just ask the kid.
I think the reaction is based on NC State and how they do the rest of the season.
After beating Purdue, from the Big 10, people were lukewarm at best, and by season's end, people called that win a fluke...because Purdue wasn't good.
I really don't see how this will be any different.
