Whoever wants either three hots and a cot and/or a solid education from a fine school. Nobody should fool themselves that they are going to win or certainly not improve enough to make basketball their career. When you recruit the WV state tournament and places that will be part of Russia next Thursday, that is what you get.
Keep your head down, keep quiet, take you lumps, study hard and walk away with a degree.
and yet that fabulous all star new administration kept him.....if they think they can turn things around, why aren't they doing so???
I have no beef at all with Smith. I like him and think he will prove to be a great hire and a great President here.
My problem is with the logic of many herdfans and their misguided anger. it's quite the dichotomy, on the one hand they want to lump praise on our recent hires, on the other hand they want DD fired, then the two new rock star hires do not do what these herdfans think is right...they are mad at DD rather than the decision makers responsible. i have noticed a few herdfans here and there directing their anger at Spears. Not sure if that makes them smarter or dumber than the ones directing their anger at DD. still misguided nevertheless.
I suppose I sort of understand what you are attempting to convey, but the indirect or backhanded shots at the "all star new administration" reek of some sort of disgruntledness on your part, not others.
Is it possible that it is ok for fans to be upset with DD for not gracefully retiring into the sunset like a true Son of Marshall should probably do? I'm disappointed in Dan being retained. I think Smith should have made the call, but I also understand that the timing of the whole situation sucked for the administration and was beneficial to DD. There is no way Spears was going to make the call on this decision with a grand total of 2 days on the job. This isn't a reflection of poor decision making or lack of manhood on his part, he would be making a decision solely on others opinions and not his own. If the influence of opinions was large enough to convince Smith that he should be sent packing, it would have had to be his call, he has witnessed most of the entire season. To try and hang that on Spears would have been a dick move.
I also believe Smith will go down in the books as one of the best hires in the history of MU. However, the retention of DD will be something that he looks back on and will learn from. Spears gets a pass on this decision from me.
