This isn't a great job. In fact, calling it a shitty job wouldn't do it justice for how bad it is. But it is still a head coaching job at the D1 level that pays quite well.

The school, like most HBCUs, is a mix of incompetency, corruption, and laziness. They fired their head football coach and AD on the same day. This happened with an interim president. So they had an interim president who named an interim AD and didn't have a head football coach or a head men's basketball coach. That duo went out and hired a head football coach. Who did they hire?

The guy they hired had this as his coaching resume:

2000-2006: Assistant coach at Lackey High School (Indian Head, Maryland)
2007-2012: Out of football
2013: Offensive line coach at NC Central (4-7 record)
2014: Offensive line coach at Delaware State (2-10 record)
2015 - 2017: Head coach at La Plata High School (Maryland).Their record was 0-11, 2-8, 6-4

Of course, they've gotten blasted in all four games this year. How does a state government allow so much money to be wasted on incompetent hires?

You've worked at a HBCU, so you know the answer most likely - some manifestation of corruption. The guy they hired is somebody's buddy, he's kicking back part of his salary to the interim AD, something like that.
