Republicans can usually win a midterm election in Wisconsin (ie Johnson) or during presidential cycle but Madison controls the board for these off cycle deals. It’s a shame that there wasn’t enthusiasm to oppose her blatant campaign of gerrymandering but it is what it is.Watching the dems take a victory lap on retaining a judicial seat is kind of funny. It would have been a good win for republicans, but trying to win an off year election in a swing state when your opposition throws national resources behind it is tough.

You can't compare a general election to a special election. Voting on this election was up all across the state.
