I get why people are partisan about this, everything is 'gotcha' now days. But this should be an obvious middle ground. It could be an actual drain the swamp moment, but too many are seeking to gain the moral high ground instead of admitting both sides are scum.

A few months ago I told my friends something like this would happen with the Trump presidency. The need or want to expose him would eventually lead to everyone's closet being ripped open. If Washington can be exposed as the open sore it is, the Trump era could be the change needed, as hard as it'll be to live through.
