Will be interesting to see if the 304 boy can break into the starting lineup at UPIKE.DD estimate of player’s ability: Division One.
Player’s actual ability, having placed himself in the transfer portal and found this taker: 2,300 student NAIA small college playing in the Mid-South Conference with the likes of Shawnee State, Life Chiropractic College, and Lindsey Wilson. Not a lower DI program, not DII, not DIII. The NAIA.

Good analysis and comparison.NCAA is broken and getting worse by the minute. My daughter played NAIA. It allows kids to focus on their academics and still play a sport. You know, what a student-athlete should be...
It will be interesting to see if more smaller schools might make the move to NAIA since the NCAA seems to be abandoning them...
What’s the difference between NAIA and NCAA DII? This is a commonly asked question by institutions trying to determine the best athletic affiliation for their school. While many of the demographics for top performing schools in the NAIA and the NCAA are similar, there are some key differences that set the NAIA apart.
What does all this mean? NAIA members are on a more level playing field financially, competitively, and enrollment-wise. Schools don’t have to be the biggest or have the deepest pockets to experience success in the NAIA. The focus is where it should be – on maximizing your Return on Athletics®.
- DII schools spend 70% more than NAIA schools to offer quality athletic programs.
- NAIA schools spend significantly less to be nationally competitive. The median athletics budget difference between the NAIA Top 100 Directors’ Cup schools and all NAIA members was $400,000. For DII schools, the difference was $2.4 million.
Sam has never been a fan of facts. He was originally a walk-on
Did DD give this NAIA level player a DI scholarship or not? Fact.Sam has never been a fan of facts.
Another fact. Some (on this very forum) seem content with making the token basketball effort. Wins and losses aren't important to them. What is important, is that poor boys from the coalfields are given an opportunity to play at the highest level of D1 sports. It doesn't matter that Concord, WVU-TECH, and even Glenville are better suited landing places. This is all about the token effort. Hillbilly ball, the 304 boys, blah blah blah. Being one of the worst programs in one of the worst conferences simply doesn't matter either. It's all about the token effort, and whom better to lead that effort than one of their own, a son of Marshall, a 304 coalfield boy himself.Did DD give this NAIA level player a DI scholarship or not? Fact.
Fact is that you are what your record says you are. And this year we were one of the worst basketball teams in the country. Mainly because of awful recruiting and poor game day coaching.

Your criticism of Dan is well founded, IMHO! But I am confident/hopeful that our new AD will right this sinking ship next Spring! Let's have a Danny Day in late Winter, give him a rocking chair and a big send off, I live 3 hours from Huntington but I would attend that game and cheer Dan as he goes on to retirement.Another fact. Why? The press release said that DD was signing a one year contract in order to give time to work on a SERIES OF CONTRACTS. DD will be here as long as he wants. The new AD has done everything but openly state that, and also that, since he finds DD acceptable as a coach, he has zero expectations of this coach or the next. If the AD is willing to totally write off 22-23, what makes you think he is suddenly going to care about 23-24 or any future year?Your criticism of Dan is well founded, IMHO! This is a token effort. DD will be here as long as he wants, recruiting Serbians and NAIA talent level Hillbilly Boys, and will be followed by either one of his staff or some guy who has failed elsewhere. The next regime will differ in style and methods, but the goal is the same. Show up and go through the motions. They don’t care. They are not trying. This is a token effort.
My daughter played NAIA soccer as well. Enjoyed the true college experience. It’s not just a job.NCAA is broken and getting worse by the minute. My daughter played NAIA. It allows kids to focus on their academics and still play a sport. You know, what a student-athlete should be...

Bet he schedules every pud OOC team ge can get to pad the win/loss column which will prove absolutely nothing.Unless he has a lights out year, I don’t think Dan will be our coach in 22-23.
Come on, Sam. Danny took a hillbilly walk on and in two short seasons developed him into a LEGIT NAIA caliber scholarship player!! Give him a break!!DD estimate of player’s ability: Division One.
