Does anyone know much about his background growing up? I know he went to H.S. in Va. but was told he grew up in Mercer County, WV.. I had never heard that before.

Devon transferred from Big Creek (which I believe consolidated with Iaeger) after his freshman year to Richlands HS in VA. Wikipedia tells me Big Creek was in McDowell County.
Richlands is a very good program. Competitive with Bluefield every year. Much better environment for a player of Devon's quality to develop. Big Creek (Iaeger) would never allowed him to get the exposure he needed. Richlands is in VA but not the part of the state that is known for producing tons of athletes like the Tidewater and NoVA areas. Richlands played in the same conference as Graham which produced Ahmad Bradshaw. I hope we continue to get the players from our area as they are usually very tough, hard working, blue collar types of athletes.
His father was also the chief of police in War, WV. The Gazette ran a really nice article on him over the summer that detailed a lot of his background.
SW Virginia has produced a ton of good College players in the past 10 years though
Not what I would call a ton, I grew up in grundy, you have Mike Compton from richlands, Jones brothers from Powell valley, heath miller from honaker, Ahmad from bluefield, Luke Owens from grundy, and devon. This is over a large time span.
