Doc New Contract?

After announcement of the new contract, how can you possibly conclude "he's still on the market?"

Lawyers have to talk to lawyers else they don't get paid. Some contract provisions have to be worked out through negotiation - even if the general terms have been agreed upon.

Are we supposing that either Doc or Hammrick would renege on his word? I don't see that happening on either side.

If a $5 million/year offer came, the announcement would mean nothing. It has to start being executed. Check out what Reggie Barlow is going through right now.

I assume his contract hasn't been finalized because until today, he technically didn't have a boss. Since they hired an interim president today, once that position is finalized, I figure we will hear about Holliday's contract being completed, which will probably be sometime later in January.

Didn't have a boss? Mike Hamrick is his boss. The president is Hamrick's boss and has to approve the contract. Mike is the one who didn't have a boss, not Doc.

HERD (Plains)....the PRESIDENT makes the final call.......not Mike Hamrick! AD's ONLY recommend a candidate.

Kind of like how the CEO of the company I work for is not my boss?

zilla, I said the president had to approve. How is that different from making the final call? However, the president is not Doc's boss, Hamrick is.

Dave Wilson reporting extensions for both Doc and Hamrick:

"We are indeed pleased to have secured Mike Hamrick and Coach Holliday as our athletic director and head coach for the long term,â€￾ said Michael G. Sellards, chairman of the Marshall University Board of Governors. “They have both done outstanding work in their respective jobs and their commitment to Marshall University and the success of our student-athletes both on and off the field is truly commendable. We look forward to continued success in the coming years.â€￾

Probably shouldn't even use the word "boss" in today's college sports landscape.

Do you think Saban, Meyer, Coach K, etc. have a "boss" in the truest sense of the word?

It's like what Gordon Gee said during the Jim Tessell mess when asked about firing him......He said he was more worried about Tressell firing him.

Stupid thing to say but it says a lot about how he felt in the situation.
