Doc Your Buddy is Costing Us

Yes. Lets ditch a guy who made Marshall one of the top offenses in a season a year ago and having dealt with lord knows how many injuries currently, while playing a freshman laiden team.

I bet you dumbasses would fire Les Miles as well...
This is why so many morons on here get so much hell, in fact, its why WV as a state is so stomped on...nobody has any guts, a bunch of pussies spewing administrative jargon like they know what the hell they are talking about, forgetting they are on the internet and the coaches are on the field.
If some on here had half a brain, they would direct their tirades to the proper place.

I am surprised nobody is talking about players not executing. Passing was erratic, receivers couldn'the get open, blocking was inconsistent with virtually no run support.

Bill Legg is a solid coordinator but his troops were outmatched by better players today.

WKU had an equal number of starters and FL players as we did.
This game was really about as even as one could get. One played better than the other, hence our loss.
I can't put this one just one person. The whole team (minus the defense because they actually played real hard) just did not execute. We lost the CUSA title 2 years ago in similar dominated fashion...

Then went on a campaign that rocked CUSA...

The difference is this. We will good next year and they will revert back to being a sorry team. There coach has his fingers crossed he is offered another job. It is obvious he expects to be gone. He has to know the payback that is coming.Even he knows they will stink next year.

Wow Herdstruck lets see are you one of the "morons", "dumbasses", "pussies", or "half a brain" or are you a combination of all the aforementioned? Just asking since you must know much more than anyone else on here about all aspects of the game.

Ohio why will WKU "stink" next year? Is this something Herdstruck told you? Even if the coach leaves there cupboard is far from bare and as we all know recruiting for a winning team is easier than recruiting for a loser. Sure QB will be a huge loss just like Cato. However I am sure they will find a replacement just like we did. I don't think they will be as good as this years edition but neither were we. I think they will be competitive but I don't think they will stink. Let's see what happens when they play for the CUSA championship and there bowl game.

With the absence of Brohm and Doughty WKU will be a totally different team. WKU is the benefactor of Petrino (who brought in Brohm) and a rare find in Doughty (not by Petrino). WKU is still reaping the benefits of having Petrino. The farther removed they become, the less likely they are to compete. WKU is a basketball school which does not have the resources to be a premier football program. Good grief, did you see their high school stadium?

I give them all the credit for this year. They are a very good team and should be ranked far ahead of other teams in the playoff poll. I just think this is the year for them. This year is what 1999 was for our program. We were still light years better, but this is the best WKU can and will reach for quite some time.

Legg has got to go

i agree. I think i've seen us run maybe 3 screens all year...the play calling is predictable. is that a result of Litton being a freshman? trying to give the OC the benefit of the doubt, but we're pretty "meh" and could use some creativity in play calling. we have weapons we're not even using. i wouldn't be opposed to seeing a change myself.

It's the same plays when Cato was here, Cato perfected them and the timing him and Shular had cant be matched.

Cato also learned which play to use out of the options sent to him from the sideline. Cato made the offense shine. I think we will be fine. Chase has the physical size to compliment any of the plays Cato wasn't able to pull off. As he bulks up, defenders aren't going to be able to bring him down as easy.

Ask UCF about recruiting and coaching 'a winning program'...they know all about it now, don't they? Idiot.
'Sure, the QB will be a huge loss' well no sh.it man, what do you expect?

Listen, their team does have many of the fundamentals of Petrino, but even that needs maintaining...their cupboard will be bare after this season.
If Brohm goes off and loses in a bigger conference, their last glimmer of success will be totally gone...they will be lucky to win 4 games a season.

But go ahead, keep trying to doubt me and get owned by others on this thread, because it is obvious younl do not know what the hell you are talking about.

This is always the "Marshall" way of thinking and it's fascinating.
The other team will always be terrible from now on and Marshall will be on the rise. The other team has no where to go but down, Marshall no where but up.

Saw on a WKU board that they have a transfer QB sitting out this year that will probably be the man for them next year. Does anyone know any scoop on this transfer ?

Well, that did kinda happen with ECU, Houston, and USM while here...
ECU won it, then regressed...terribly. Houston blew it twice...and then regressed as well. Southern Miss minus this season, was so goddamn bad it wasn't even worth mentioning them as an FBS team anymore.

Herdstruck why are you so infantile and always resort to the name calling when the opinions stated by myself and others on here are not yours. Did you actually go to Marshall? What degree and when? Just curious what an egomaniac like you studied.

just a hunch I have. Not trying to be dogmatic about it bb. Look at their past 10 years. Outside of this season they haven't exactly been world changers. Take away that QB and this years team is probably another 7 win WKU team IMO. If they have a transfer who's that good then my hats off to them. We all know how hard it is to follow one great QB with another, easier said than done. I guess we will find out.

I did graduate, twice. One with a Psy major, double minor in CJ and History...Dissertation Capstone paper was on The Psychological Effects of Solitary Confinement (spoiler, you go insane). Masters in Counseling, lol...yes...I do that stuff.

My problem is how absolute people are on this place. Legg and the team has 1 bad game and they all need to go, not realizing you would have to unlearn all you have been taught. New OC's can take a while. Legg is still here despite actually having a prolific offense...lets not forget that we went 10 wins in the last 3 years (pending the next game) and it wasn't because of the defense...I mean, Cato did set and break several FBS and conference records...so obviously his offense DOES work.
Plus, for what we pay, who the hell else is going to be able to work an offense with these types of players? Also, will he stay? Then you have to hire another one...and hope the team gets along with him along with Doc and everything.
Seems a little more tough than you think.

But yes, one game, and he needs gone...and people wonder why that is stupid.

Exactly. Its not like this team has been a powerhouse in their program existence. They remind me of Houston with Kase Keenum...had one monster year, record-wise, then regressed tremendously. Now, they are a flash in the pan once more.
At least we can retain our coaches for the time being...many mid majors can't say that.

Wasn't Doc on the proverbial "hot seat" after the 2013 Rice loss? This game felt a lot like that one. Completely dominated.

Sorry, but you will need to show me where I said "Marshall will be on the rise," and "Marshall has no where to go but up."

WKU may get extremely lucky and EVENTUALLY recreate what they have this season, but it's not likely for most programs, especially one so new to I-A. Do you think they would be in the same boat right now had Petrino not made the bizarre move to WKU? Sure they would still have Doughty, but not the current head coach and several star players. Besides, it's the end of the season and they have yet to crack the top 25. If you can't see next season them having a drop off in production and that equating to mediocre success then you are blind.

You and @Marine03 can keep sucking WKU off if you want to, but you will not get any help from me in the process.

Where did you see me sucking WKU off ? I said no one knows what they'll have because quite simply that's a fact.

Meh, I felt like my point was being exaggerated so I decided to mess with you, lol.

I can't argue that nobody knows 100% but I just don't see it happening.

Southern Miss, on the other hand, is likely to be much improved next season. I take offense from the Ear fan @cstolz26 for implying Marshall fans are only saying this about WKU because of the game. If Doughty were granted a 7th year and Brohm was guaranteed to stay then hell yeah they would probably be even better and have no drop off.

WKU will definitely have some drop off. If their transfer QB pans out...they could still be pretty good.

Well if their defense learns our 8 plays they will dominate us again. We lost this game on the offensive side Doughty didn't beat us their defense did.

1. Read option left (chase always hands off)
2. Read option right (chase always hands off)
3.Bubble screen without any blockers
4.TE seem route
5. PA quick slant
6.Wide receiver in motion throw it to him right
7.Wide receiver in motion throw it to him left
8. Deep ball down the sidelines to Allen. Note: we only run this play on 3rd and 2 (or short)

That sums up our entire offense. Sorry to divulge the scouting report.

You are SO RIGHT, red fan !!! You must have read Legg's book (which is acclaimed to be the shortest book in print) titled Designing and Coaching College Football Plays.

Hell, Herdstruck, you just described US after Pruett left and Tan Man took over. Shit happens to almost all programs sometimes except for, well, maybe the very cream of the elite Power Fives. It even happens, and has happened, to us.

The comment about being a basketball school begs comparison with MU. Isn't this the same damn argument people use to explain our putrid mediocrity in basketball for the last 30 years of so. "Oh, Marshall is a Football school, we just can't afford to be good in basketball".

Well, if those arguments are true, then who has the best chance to be better in both sports? WKU has an enrollment of over 20,000; MU is stuck in the 13,000 range. Budgets (state support and other $$$). Well, this year, MU's governing board passed a budget of $116 million for year through next summer. On the same day, Eastern Kentucky, enrollment of about 16,000, passed their budget of $348 million!! Can you imagine what Western's budget is, with an enrollment of 20,000 plus?

Locales? Bowling Green has a population of 60,000+; Huntington 48,000 and dropping further. I'm confident, too, that Bowling Green does not have the amount of abandoned, dilapidated, deteriorating commercial and resident structures as found in H-town, or as stagnant an economy.

So if Brohm does leave the Hilltoppers, and I have no concrete knowledge that some of you may have that he is gone, who do they get? I believe that they would have the ability and resources to make a pretty decent hire. Of course, for Marshall's sake, maybe we'll get lucky and their athletic director will make a stunning, totally unexpected hire and get a 68 year former long time high school coach with no college experience who played football at Western half a century ago!!!

Thanks, oldeherd...so you're the other guy that bought that 3rd book.
