Scottie Montgomery is not going to survive this one. A terrific assistant who is really struggling as a head coach.
That's a game they should have won by 20+. Last week, A&T beat a far better team even though they only had 140 yards of total offense and gave up over 400 yards. Today, they also beat a better team, were out gained by over 100 yards, and had 113 penalty yards.
On 4 of ECU's first 5 drives, they got inside the 5 yard line yet only scored 17 points. That's an average of 4 points per possession inside your opponent's 5 yard line. They threw an interception that was returned 109 yards for a TD, which is a 14 point swing.
A&T looked extremely poorly coached. The number of offsides, false starts, illegal formations/motions, and delay of games had to have been at least six. They also had 2-3 unsportsmanlike/personal fouls.

Eeeeee gads! I am friends w/an ECU fan. He was really hoping this (year 3) was going to be the year Scottie turned it around. Appears they have a Snyder situation going on....
Damn - I already bought my ticket to the ECU Virtual Bowl game. Hope they qualify. I think 3-9 gets them in. Fingers crossed!!!
I’m sure their attendance was epic though. Their fans will tell you... I promise.
The point I was making that you all seem to be missing is we need nc state Louisville Purdue or wvu to get to 38k. They got 38k for nca&t. So to call them out on attendance makes our fans look stupid

429 - unfortunately for the Pirates, their program is in free fall right now. ECU games are very well attended, but unless Scottie turns it around this year I highly doubt that 38 will be their avg butts in seats in November.
And to your point: This has always been a problem for MU. This subject has been beat to death over the years.....good seasons, bad seasons doesn’t seem to make a big difference. What sugestions do you believe would improve the numbers?
You didn’t watch the game. They didn’t have more than 6000 people at the game. At least a third of those were A&T fans.
Now, granted, there is a valid excuse for the low turnout since the game was suspended for a day, but claiming they had 38k is far from reality.

It's not semantics. It's exactly what ATO mentioned. He mocked ECU fans for boasting about attendance at that game. Attendance at the game was awful. Tickets sold is entirely different. If Bill Gates decides to buy every single seat at UL-Monroe for the next twenty years, yet only 3000 fans show up (thanks to Bill giving them free tickets), does that mean UL-Monroe has great attendance? No, having only 3000 people there makes it awful attendance.
You made it your argument to defend ECU for having good attendance at this game both on this board and Herdfans. In reality, their attendance was awful for this game, much of it having to do with the game being delayed for a day, but that doesn't change the fact that attendance was poor.
And it isn't "always tickets sold" as the number used. Just ask Navy.
ECU, which is in a small town in the poorer part of NC, and whose fans have the world's worst case of "little brother" in sports, made a huge mistake in moving down to THE AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!. The other schools are urban colleges which, while none is really in the top 5 in popularity in their own towns, make ECU an total out-layer that will never fit in. Its fans are way too smart to buy into all of the P6 and fake national championship bs

By no reasonable measure is it a move down to go from C-USA to the AAC. You can't claim ECU has a case of "little brother" yet make that claim about the AAC compared to C-USA.
If I may: I believe Sam used the wrong words to describe his point. I agree with YAGS that in terms of revenue and perception, the AAC has been a good move for the Pirates. BUT - Sam’s point is accurate imo regarding geographical make-up of the AAC. Like App, ECU is in a kind of no-mans land. Most, if not all of it’s mates are in large urban areas.
They have an identity of their own, but they also identify with the metro area where they are located. Greenville, NC is very rural and doesn’t have a great reputation, from living herein NC for the last 30 years.
Also - they have struggled in football since Holtz left. Ruffin McNeil and Scottie ? have performed miserably since 2010. If I was an alum I would feel like,well, like a Marshall fan from 2005-2009!

Alzheimer's is starting to show. Ruffin had the best head coaching tenure at ECU in the last 40 years. Struggled since Skip left? Lets look at that:

Actually it’s a long running joke amoung CUSA fans about ECU and their incessant attendance talk.
My comment wasn’t even meant as an knock on their actual attendance but on their fans long history of constantly telling everyone and anyone how many people were at each game down to the digit.

If using archaic city population, sure. But urban population is a better indicator of size of a town, and Huntington is much larger by that measure: 202k vs. 117k.

Ruff was fired and he had everything coming(and well liked). Then you get this mess. Bottom line, if you make that change you cant screw up the hire.
btw, ECU players just gave up at the end of the game which is a very bad considering who they played. SM needs to go like right now but they may keep him just for the egg on the face factor by the AD and alums.

Learn to read. ATO said “ . . . how many people were at each game.” Even by his words, that isn’t paid seats, but rather, actual attendance.
Their attendance was horrible for the game. Like I said, Bill Gates could buy every ticket at every game for the rest of his life, but that doesn’t mean schools won’t get mocked - rightfully so - if only ten people actually show up.
They still have better attendance than we do whether that is tickets sold or butts in the seats. My point is we shouldn’t mock them for being better than we are in that department

Because there is no "power 6", the 2017 national champion was Alabama, and anybody who sees a similarity between any aspect of any of this crowd's programs and what goes on in the true majors does not know enough about sports to comment.
THE AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!! is a G5 conference. Most say it will be the #2 or 3 among those this year, behind the MWC, that varies from year to year. ECU is guilty by association of involvement it this idiotic hype.
Talked to him last fall after being told he was an expert at stopping a certain offensive scheme. A guy I worked with worked under him, raved about his character, and said he was phenomenal to work under.
