Egg prices in California reach $9 per dozen in some areas

Not to worry. orange jesus has a magic 'lower grocery prices' button, and he will use it on day one.

Eighteen count (not 12), cage-free eggs, in California, during a bird flu epidemic. Still too expensive but not surprising.

Fine journalism work in that article.

Well, a 12-pack of Kroger brand is $3.99 on sale in Kentucky, and that's too freaking much for eggs.

I don't purchase them, I get them for free. I also get cage-free duck eggs.

I have not bought eggs for some time now. I can eat other things just as well . If everyone would just stop buying overpriced eggs the prices would soon come back to reasonable prices. Part of it is just plain price gouging and greed.

Do tell. Who exactly is “gouging” on the prices?

I just paid $15 per jar for some pickled eggs. Think there's 14 eggs per jar. One jar jalapeño and one jar with pickled beets.

Also bought a jar of banana pickles, a jar of pickled mixed sweet peppers, a jar of hot pickles, and a tub of apple butter.

Added a couple lbs of pulled pork, couple lbs of peppered bacon, some jalapeño cheese curds, and a mix of whoppie pies.

Nice Amish market a few miles down the road in Shrewsbury. Told the smoking hot cute young Amish girl they should open up a craft beer stand. Let her know I'd be a regular and told her about the horrocks farm market back in Michigan.

well, that pisses me off (not really). my wife paid $10 for an 18 pack of eggs at the local grocery store yesterday.

When Iwas in college, I took several Art History classes. In one, I remember viewing a pre Renaissance painting where the artist had painted oranges sitting on the window sill of the room. The professor said the oranges where a symbol that the occupant of the home was very rich because oranges had to be imported and only the wealthy could afford them. Eggs are becoming the new oranges.

They are continually raising prices. They offer specials, but when you get to checkout, you find you didn’t scan some sign code. Choices of products are limited when compared to other grocery stores. Often times, I don’t want to buy 10 of one item to save a quarter. Our Kroger is dirty and during crowed days I have seen lines bulge to 10-12 people waiting. I often hate to place my food on the filthy checkout belts. Stay tuned for Vol. 2.

I will admit that this is one Kroger. Their store on the other end of the county is much nicer and cleaner. It also has a bank branch, a deli, and a pharmacy.

Loved Michigan's story about the amish girl and her produce stand, and his suggestion of a craft beer addition to their location. His stories usually get a laugh. And I agree with greengeezer about Kroger's deals only applying if you scanned some code. Not a good way to merchandise, in my opinion.

Another problem for me is Kroger specials usually require a QR code scanner app on your phone. I haven’t found one of those yet that doesn’t want to charge you a monthly fee.

Funny, reading this thread about egg prices made me realize that I have never bought an egg.
