Did nothing about it, really. Didn't want to touch it with a 10 foot pole. Our cars, our products blocked out and reciprocal tariffs have been one sided. How many American cars in Japan and Germany? Now, look here.

Now we have one trying to get a fair deal. Good for him.

Maybe I’m missing something and honestly excuse my ignorance if so…

But having goods manufactured over seas and shipped here, even with tariffs, would still probably be cheaper than having it made and produced here.

So you’re gonna put a whole factory of thousand of people making minimum of $50k per year in the US and then try to tell me that it’s going to save Americans money (the economy) ? Maybe in the long run????

I just don’t see how paying some kid in Taiwan $.20 a day to make my shoes and charge a 25% tariff to import it is gonna be more expensive than some 18 year old kid from Seattle demanding $24/m per hour to make some shit quality product only to stop and take 50 breaks to play ping pong on his breaks bc his fingers hurt. Or just skip the actual people, and we don’t increase jobs…we just increase machinery production and we have to pay a slew of people 150k to watch a computer screen stamp and sew.

I’m not against American jobs..or Americans making money. But I do think a lot of this is either smoke and mirrors or it’s too much, too fast … and our country can’t handle the quick shift

^^someone else who thinks it’s better to pay a U.S. worker 25-30k a year in welfare subsidies and contribute nothing to an income tax base.

This also shifts a policy of US consumer subsidizing 3rd world development and ultimately creating a more level playing field on trade worldwide. “Free” Trade has never been free. (At least that's what the liberal dems always used to say)

Thats the thing about business. Strategy is never about tomorrow. It’s about years from now. Pivoting isn’t something that will ever be smooth or easy. But for the U.S. to stay viable, it’s necessary.

This will hit China the hardest as they send lots of tankers and container ships full of shite each day. This is going to result in investment in American manufacturing.
Who is going to invest in manufacturing when Trump is constantly changing the tariffs? You build a factory and you’re one “foreign leader compliments Trump and lets him build a golf course” away from the tariff disappearing. He’s been nothing but mercurial so far; why would anyone expect that to change?

Manufacturing here will take the tariff to zero regardless of how jupiturial Trump is

Yes but when the tariff goes away at his whim suddenly nobody is buying your thing when it can be made elsewhere cheaper again.

If you want this to work the tariffs need to be made by law, so they can’t just be waved away. With the timeline of building manufacturing doing it like this will not work.

Because the middle class is being destroyed. If you don't make anything or innovate we are totally reliant on others as consumers. Strategically it will hose us in the long run. Trump knows it. Wall Street doesn't give a shit. They are looking at the next quarter. Strategically we are in a mess and if it doesn't get fixed we will be destroyed and taken over.

Covid should have taught people that. IF Tawain to fall right now the American way of life would nearly be destroyed or at the mercy of the Chinese.

Americans are too dumb to realized it.

This is of vital national strategic interest. If not, we are headed to war with China and others for our survival. There is a chance that we would lose. Or you have a revolution here when the working class says enough is enough. Quality of life is not better and purchasing power is not better. We don't make anything here. We are being destroyed and becoming dependent on everyone else.

There's that modern day slave labor you so easily excuse and overlook. Meanwhile your mind is stuck in 1860...

I agree with most of that. For sure. Isn’t there room to have both without being a dictator? I don’t mind the tariffs/taxes.. whatever. But imo no need to go to 30% during a 2am truth social post. Maybe 30% to scare companies to show he’s serious about manufacturing here in America…great. Can’t the same be done with larger tax breaks for those corporations instead of potentially hurting Americans when everything is so shitty rn. People are losing jobs, inflation is sky high, the markets are up and down. Just so much stability.

He has enough business people in his pocket a 1 year plan to set this into place once in office would have been sufficient

So you still deny cheap foreign products are made with modern day slave labor? Got it.

Please tell me what part of anything I’ve posted implies that in any way. No I am not denying that. I’ve never denied that.

I’m saying that Trump’s constant flip flopping on tariffs and the haphazard, easily reversible way he’s doing them mean that businesses will not be confident investing in US manufacturing as a response.

If a corporation thinks the tariff may just go away in a week, a month, a year, 4 years, they aren’t going to invest in building manufacturing capability. It needs done but needs done better.

6 trillion in investment over next four years.
US Farmers boosting production of crops and products because cheap foreign products will be more expensive. 230k jobs added and unemployment dropped to 4.2%. This is also going to lead to lower interest rates as well as investors go back towards treasuries instead of stocks that only benefit 8% of Americans

Is whoever came up with those numbers the same one that came up with the tariff rates we were being charged by uninhabited islands?

So only 8% of Americans have 401Ks, IRAs and pensions tied to stocks?

Unemployment going from 4.1% to 4.2% is drop?

Those numbers are the sum of the figures announced at WH press conferences made by Trump and the CEOs behind the dollars.
You’re attempting to speak logically to a rube. Someone who claims to agree with the situation we face and actions needed to correct….but is too gutless to implement the decisions necessary to execute.
