Here is a list of excellent shows that I recommend y'all giving a try, I've started to watch them since last Winter.

1) Foyle's War (British, 1.5 hour long per episode)

2) Luther (British, 50ish minutes per episode)

3) Hinterland (British, 1.5 hour long per episode)

4) Sherlock (British,1.5 hour long per episode)

5) Bletchley Circle (British, 50ish minutes per episode)

6) Happy Valley (British, 60 minutes per episode)

7) Broadchurch (British, 50 minutes per episode)

8) The Fall (British, 60 minutes per episode)

9) Fringe (American, 60 minutes per episode)

10) The Killing (American, 45 minutes per episode)

11) Top of the Lake ( British, 50 minutes per episode)

12) Wallander ( British, 1.5 hour per episode)

Most of these shows are British and many of them are 1.5 hour long per episode. The British are different with many of their shows than here in the USA. They do like 2-6 episodes per season and each season comes out every 2-3 years. The episodes are a like a short movie, 1.5 hour long. For example, Foyle's War started in 2002 or 2003 and the final season aired back in Winter. Of course, the final season is not on Netflix yet. But there are a total of 28 episodes through 13 years. First few seasons had 4 episodes, then they went to 2 per season and back to 3 per season.

The Fall is good.

If you like the Fall, you would really like : Happy Valley and Broadchurch. They are similar as in entire show following 1 suspect. Both are only 1 season, I think Happy Valley had like 6 episodes and Broadchurch had 7/8.

Some others are cop shows but each episode deals with a different case besides Luther, Luther does link up a few episodes together in each season. It's an excellent cop show with Idris Elba playing the starring role.

Fringe was a great show. I liked the first season of The Killing but I just couldn't get into the second.

Marco Polo was a pretty fun Netflix original. It's not must-see if you don't like period dramas but after the first couple episodes when it gets going it's really good.

Yeah I've tried 4 or 5 times to get past the first couple of episodes and it just doesn't hold my attention

If you aren't liking it at all then it's probably just not up your alley. Being a history nerd makes me simultaneously more into it and angrier when they get stuff wrong in it.

Has anyone watched the one about US spies in the Revolutionary War?

I've caught a few episodes of that one and it's pretty good
