Some of you needs to cool your jets. I am excited about Huff, but Doc was recruiting at levels we had never seen when he first got here too. That 2011 or 2012 class was ranked in the 50s.

Actually yes. Travon Van committed pretty early on and sat out in 2010. Everyone went crazy over him too.
Antwan Chisolm and Fred Pickett Jr were considered big gets on a class Doc has less than a month to close. Sadly they were caught up in that Pizza Boy Robbery that Mike Fleurizard did. Neither Chisolm or Pickett were charged. Chisolm was a player of the year at a lower level and I think Pickett ended up alright.
He also signed 4-star DB Brian Robinson in that class too.
Then he followed that whiplash 2010 class with the 2011 class that finished as the 54th ranked class in the nation which even brought praised from Urban Meyer on ESPNU's NSD coverage. That class paved the way to 2014.
All I'm saying is let's not lose our minds because he snagged a guy that he's been recruiting all season. If he brings in several more 4-stars that are all eligible and snags some transfers from the portal then we can't start running around like we just won the lottery.
Chisolm, Pickett, Fleurizard, Robinson, Van? Van is the only one I recall that made the slightest impact. Potential won't win you any games. Performance will. I'm anxious to see what else Huff brings to us.
The point wasn’t about their impact it was about who Doc signed in his first class. Chisolm and Pickett were dismissed before the season and Robinson dismissed after his RS season domestic offense and possession of a fire arm.
Still you can't use the impact argument because Coombs has yet to step on campus.
The point is we've been here before and signing on 4-star WR doesn't mean Huff is taking us to the promised land.
Glad to see the misery of Huntington has worked its way into the minds of everyone that follows Marshall football.

I really think Van could’ve been great. He just danced too much and didn’t have the ability to find the hole. Plus that was at a time where we were cycling through some solid (albeit flawed) running backs

God, you ridiculous Karens ITT. Did you read some of the statements made based on this one 4 star recruit? There's reason for excitement, but whether or not Coach Huff will become a Marshall legend will be seen once he and his team hit the field.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that **** Coombs is a solid commit. Remember what Coach Huff said about character. It matters. Go get the next one Coach.

Who said anyone is miserable or unexcited. I'm pumped for Huff and landing this kid, I just feel it's premature to believe he taking us to the promised land. Especially off the landing of one 4-star WR. Now if the 2021 class is full of 4-stars I'll do cartwheels. I don't see many more for 2020 because our roster is full because of the 2020 eligibility mulligan.
Doc preached character when he first got here. He even said he had three rules for immediate termination.
1. Treat women with respect
2. No guns
3. No drugs(at least I think this was the third)
Doc was dismissing kids all the time and people on this board complained he was too much of a hardliner.
I'm not taking up for Doc or putting him above Huff. I'm just pointing out that we've been here before.
We're all so excited about change that we're ignoring the real question marks and any level of caution.
I'm excited. I can't wait for spring ball and I haven't been that way in years. I just know that we need to proceed with cautious optimism.
No one is saying his ranking is fake. No one is saying that he will be a bust. No one is saying that we won't be great under Huff. At least myself I am saying one 4-star WR doesn't show that.
Heck I have lost count how many posts I've read on this board since 2012 that we need to stop falling in love with star ratings and just recruit kids that fir our system. Equating character with low ranked recruits. Heck that's the argument for Danny's recruiting.
I love the signing. I think we needed it. I'm just not crowning Huff as the GOAT MU HC before he coaches a game because of an awesome speech and a great commitment.
Now if somehow he figures out a way to fit in several more Coombs and maybe a Bama RB transfer I'll be on board that we're gonna run through CUSA.
However retaining Cramsey and a couple other hires have got me hesitant now.
Another point relevant to this discussion is retention and development of recruits. Go back and look at Doc's classes. In many instances, within couple years a quarter to forty percent or so of said recruits were no where to be found at MU. Hard to "develop" and build experienced depth when so many players are long gone from H-town within a year, year and a half, two years of their arrival!

Big Papa!! Agreed 100%. If ever there was a time to make yourself vulnerable & shed the negative na-bob insecurity blanket, this is it. Sometimes, you just have to dance in the rain & yell like a crazy person! Just do it......
No one said this isn't a big commitment. That was never what I was saying. What this commitment doesn't equate to is that Huff is going to take us to the promised land. I didn't say not to be excited. I said to pump our brakes a little bit. Some are acting like this is our first ever 4-star commitment. Good recruiting doesn't equal the promised land. See the last 11 years.
Be excited, but let's temper all the hyperbole.

That guy has made a few poor decisions in his life.
I think he actually did end up behind bars for a while. I do wish we'd have been a bit more patient in letting the legal process play out because neither Chisolm nor Pickett were every charged. I get why Doc did it, but still wish we would have waited on that.
It looks like he is behind bars for at least a few more years.

I know I don't know everyone on here but it seems like the Sam C guy has never seen a naked girl so this might be somewhat accurate..
