Shortly after Dole lost the Presidential election he went on Letterman. Without the stress of the campaign, Bob was a totally different guy. I just remember thinking it was a shame we didn’t get to see that side of him.

One of my favorite Americans and him standing at the funeral as mentioned above showed he was a badass of epic proportions.
I remember rooting for him, but knowing he had no chance.
Back then I really believed in conservatism. Now I just know it doesn't exist, but in 1996 I was just a dumb 7th grader who thought the stuff they had in civics class was real.
The stuff is real, but it's all just theatrics with really no bearing on anything.
