FIU-Covid

On a lighter note, it’s only a rumor that Vanderbilt will cease its season if their kicker tests positive for a baby.
That kick was so saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. I realize it was just a stunt, but it was a line drive that went barely 30 yards, and if the other team let the ball go it'd have gone out of bounds. I'm pretty sure the 3rd String Center could have kicked it further.

Histrionics from the announcers aside, it felt like they were treating her like a kid with Down Syndrome getting to score a touchdown in a spring game. Its one of those moments that they present as being empowering to women that I think just makes a mockery of them.

Someone should have asked the head coach in the postgame presser: "So did she win the job?"

They said that’s what she was called on to do. I know it was historical, but she was named the SEC special teams player of the week for that ONE squib kick I believe. That’s a big deal for some of these guys that have dedicated their entire lives to the game.

The coach was busy cleaning out his office.

They called on her to squib it to the 35? They could have had literally 75% of the guys on the team just kick the ball out of bounds and line up on the 35. They didn’t need her to do that.

It was a stunt plain and simple, that’s not even breaking any “barriers” because she’s not even the first female kicker in FBS.

And yeah, the player of the week crap just proves the stunt angle.

My sons team a few years ago would put the kids that never got in on the kickoff team and then have the kicker kick the ball out of bounds....I laughed every single time they did it.

Just for fun, I coached middle school football last year and I started a girl at inside linebacker. She was super smart, called all the plays, motion, shift, strong calls, etc. And she was an absolute beast.

No way they called on her to squib it. It makes no sense in that situation. It was a token gesture just to get her on the field and the coaches should be ashamed. I will give her props for having bigger balls than the other players and calling them out at half time for playing with no fire

Oh but then you missed the big deal - she was the first female to play in P5. (Nebraska had a female punter in 2000, but that was BCS, which no longer exists so it never happened - yay! New glass ceiling to break!)

Reminds me of how people acted like "Black Panther" was the first Marvel movie with a black lead. People out here acting like they never seen "Blade."

Thats what the media was saying and she actually mentioned something to the affect in an interview after the game with ESPN. FWIW

Not to overlook the contributions of a female kicker on the worst team in America... But getting back to FIU and Covid, this would be a perfect time for a competent league office to have a contingency plan in place for Marshall should FIU cancel the game on Dec. 12. Have someone on notice to come to Huntington should FIU not be able to make it, the logical choice would be Charlotte since they are in-division.

But like I said, that starts with a competent league office and leadership.

Yes I know that’s what they said it still makes no sense. And just goes to show it was all a stunt. If a female can go out and boot it out the back of the end zone and consistently mail 45+ yard field goals then by all means let her do it. This girl couldn’t in that moment, I think they said her range is about 35 yards. Give me a week of practice and I can go out and do that.

Next thing you know, you will see the next actor on my 600 lb life, running a track meet in a bed on wheels and someone giving a trophy because they attempted to stand up once 20 years ago lol That is all we do these days as a society, always looking for the next headline, doesn't matter how you get there.
